The very core of Air Combat Maneuvering is working as a team. You can only do that by knowing your part in the fight and effectively communicating with your wingman. In this video we'll go over how that works as taught by the US Air Force.
Everything in this video comes from a publicly released document which can be found here:

As a casual airplane nerd, regarding the high level stuff, this is some of the best content I've tried to soak up alongside Air Combat Tutorials. It's great to get this less discussed info from as many angles as possible.

DCS players would really benefit from actual training campaigns that let us learn and practice BFM and ACM concepts within the game.

I was also more curious as to what AF documents you are drawing these tactics from so I could take a look at them as well.

Fantastic video, thanks! But I've got a question regarding the callsigns in the second half of the video. We have "Eagle 11" and "Eagle 12", but right after that, they're referred to as "Eagle 1" and "Eagle 2" instead. Does that mean the first digit (Eagle _1_ flight) gets omitted in these calls? And wouldn't it be more common to omit the Eagle callsign altogether and just call each other "1" and "2" as long as it's intra-flight? Otherwise, I'd have expected "Eagle 11, engaged" and "Eagle 11, press" instead of "Eagle 1" as it was given in the examples.

When you're communicating within the flight then its okay to shorten the callsign to the order number. So Eagle 1 and Eagle 2. It should be clear who is talking if its just flight members. However, when communicating outside of the flight then it would be expected to use the full callsign Eagle 11 and Eagle 12. The text I used was straight from the text book. But I know there are examples out there of shortening the call even further to just the digit. "1's engaged" etc. Hope that helps explain it.

Why does eagle 2 say "eagle 2, tally"at 12:30? Shouldnt the callsign be the element to receive the call? Its confusing here as the callsigns are used to identify both the caller and receiver
@TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom
@TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom 9 ай бұрын
This is a great question. In this case context is important. If there are only two people on the net then it should be obvious who is being called. But let's say this was a flight of four. How would they know who that call was meant for? Tally is something that can't be pushed on someone else. So obviously the person saying "Tally" is announcing to the flight that they have eyes on a bandit. It might seem confusing from the outside, but once you've done this a few times it becomes very natural. You don't even realize it but you understand what everyone is saying. Hopefully, that all made sense.
