I started to think after rereading dozens of times now (audio books mostly) that Bran might actually be seeing the POV of the comet. Funny you say he was seemingly light years away.

Different kinds of wings means there are other ways of “flying” than using wings. I think that means using the weirwood net, warging. Those italicised words being inner monologue makes me think of time travelling Bran theory. Like Bran (from the future) is entering Bran‘s (that is in the coma’s) dream. Bran is seeing or being shown events through time. Cat on the boat for instance doesn’t happen until after he wakes up. It can’t be real time.
@cbob2132 жыл бұрын
G.R.R.M also wanted Danny to go to Asshai when he wrote this book. It wasn’t until after ACOK (I believe) that he dumped the 5 year gap and changed Daenerys going to Asshai etc. So Dragons stirring beneath the sunrise or whatever it is could actually be Danny’s dragons slowly waking up like Mary Ellen was thinking.

I think Bran’s purpose is to bring back the “summer” from the upcoming winter. Winter falling is the process of returning to summer. The wolf’s name highlights his purpose of bringing the summer back. You are both awesome and thanks for all your videos!!

The Undying Ones speech is also italicised not quoted when Dany talks to them bc they’re using telepathy of some kind. I assumed it was the same for the Crow, rather than them being Bran’s thoughts. As for dragons stirring in Asshai, when Dany’s dragons were born, magic became stronger - it could be a metaphor for magic and the old powers waking with them? Anyway I love this series, keep up the good work!

Nice closing with Summer’s naming, could make a lot of sense! I also liked a comment below suggesting it has to be with being the opposite of the “winter” threat, either or both could be good explanations. Couple more thoughts: 1. regarding not looking West, very interesting observation indeed, could this not just be though because we don’t yet know any significant character or even storyline from there and these don’t become relevant any time soon? all the other real time things Bran sees are stuff we are familiar with, even the threat from the North has been introduced in the prologue. Also, I figured that if George’s world is kinda like Earth, if you go west enough you will end up in Asshai, i.e east. Maybe I’m oversimplifying 🤷🏻♀️ 2. Regarding the italicized lines, do you think this could be an indication of this indeed being an inner monologue because the “crow” is future Bran? Since we now know there will be some time travel aspect, even if we don’t know the details of how it will play out. Or have you ruled this out as a possibility? 3. Agreeing that Bran is not a greenseer, he has none of the trademark characteristics, but he is clearly special and powerful, so how would we call that? It’s more than warg, so is there another term? Or is it maybe that “greenseer” is correct and the other characteristics like the green or red eyes, the physical weakness etc are just the usual/common traits but it’s not mandatory? Like the exception that confirms the rule type of situation. Cheers until the next video!

It's my headcanon that some force wanted Bran to stay in the North, and engineered the events of his falling. Remember, Bran was falling *before* Jaime pushed him him out the window. Jaime gave him a hand and pulled him up... only to then push him out the window. If Jaime had done nothing, Jaime would have fallen anyway.

This was a great episode with lots to unpack. For a start, I've come to suspect that perhaps the crow wiped Jaime from Bran's memory not because the burden of that knowledge would be a distraction to Bran, but because Jaime is needed for something down the line. If Bran had remembered, he would've told and one way or another Jaime would've been executed for attempted murder, sleeping w/Cersei, etc. So, the crow modifies Bran's memory and Jaime is protected/in place to serve his purpose later on. Second thing of note- love that you mentioned the blatant Euron parallel. Clearly he has some baseline level of abilities but for whatever reason wasn't chosen to hone them. What if he's not the only Greyjoy who has abilities? I've wondered about Theon because he does have at least one prophetic dream, and later on is able to decipher that "language" of the children and clearly hear Bran through the weirwood. Just throwing pasta at the wall here, but maybe Theon's abilities- like Euron's- were dormant while at the Iron Islands and awakened once he began living at Winterfell and magic returned to the world. And if I recall correctly, we aren't given Theon's eye color so for all we know he could have the hallmark green eyes of a greenseer. Even if he doesn't, Theon could still have abilities. I've also thought his having abilities might be why a crow is trying to influence Stannis to execute him in front of the weirwood as opposed to burning him alive. Maybe whatever or whoever wants Jojen also wants Theon because they need his blood🤷♀️.

As far as why the dragon eggs are "stirring" in Asshai, maybe at this point George still intended to take us to Asshai at some point in the story. This was written the early 90s, maybe that was the plan at the time.

I'd say this is my favorite chapter/segment of the series, what with how strange bran's coma dream is, and the different corners of the world/story he is seemingly coming into contact with. This dream, the environment of the kingsmoot, the unknown eastern mysteries glimpsed through mirri maz duur, the otherworldly awesomeness that moqorro ushers in, this is what I hope to see by the load in the final few books of the series, and even in any of the spinoff shows in development. When it comes to the magical aspect of ASOIAF, I am a unapologetic pom pom waver.

What i wanna know is if Bran had somehow been able to heal and could at least walk a bit, would that deter the old gods, the children, and bloodraven from recruiting him for the three eyed crow? Cause I think that if they are evil and plan to keep Bran there, him being able to move by himself will make it harder to do that. I think that the immobility of the recuit is one of the main requirements, since they always choose people who are near death, and at least some of them wouldn't be able to move much without help.
@kat85592 жыл бұрын
I think flight in this case is just a fairly straightforward metaphor for life. Fly or die? More like live or die. "Lots of things can be wings" means that different people have different reasons for choosing life/flight over death, or something of that nature. Different things lift us up, so to speak. The things that make us want to live. I think that Bran wanted to be brave in the face of fear like his male role models.

What literature has over tv shows getting a lot of mythical or fantastical descriptions of events that can't be so easily copied or done by live action shows. When asoiaf has these scenes they are packed with a lot of symbolized events or future events to come But the show did have a part of danys dream with drogo which I enjoyed in the show but it was short. The rest would have been crazy to see in live action like theons dream or anything we see.

Very interesting also how when Jaime has a normal dream he has both hands, but when he is having a magical/fever dream or someone is talking to him, he has as much hands as he has in real life. And here Bran sees his body in the new way it looks. Even though he never saw it IRL. I wonder if there's a pattern there, we have Ned's dreams being penetrated but also some are a dream of some memories. And Cersei. And Dany, and Jon. Not sure we get any more dreams that are told as the dream is happening, I believe all else are either wolf dreams or someone recounts their dream in their thoughts

The Crow saying "put it away" is he saying that Jamie's pushing him out the window is really irrelevant given the bigger picture? To move on and never speak of it? I began my re-read and wow, Euron is EVERYWHERE! Storm gathering (Euron), Roaring (Lannister), dragons stirring in A-B-T-S. "Every flight begins with a fall..." Is that kind of like, you have to hit rock bottom before you can get better...? Did Euron endure some "setback" before being visited by this dream, out of curiosity? I don't recall if he did or if it was depicted like this. Also, Tyrion's "Dragon dream" mirrors this dream in a WAY too. SO MUCH SYMBOLISM I don't know how to sort it!

I was just thinking about this the other day - the Crow not wanting Bran to remember about Jaime. Why not? It wouldn't have distracted Bran too much from his spiritual journey. Think about it. If the Crow hadn't made Bran forget, he would have told Robb what had happened and Robb would have never become King - he would have stood for Stannis. It makes it even more clear that the Crow wanted the Starks destroyed, and most importantly - out of Winterfell.

This was the most outstanding for me. It seemed more specific than just getting Bran's concentration. His testamony must have interfered with the crow's plans.

I think the stone giant as Little Finger is very interesting, but it being the Mountain's actions in the future is still somewhat plausible. It is good to point out he isn't there. The giant has no burning eyes though. I had a 3rd thought. I'm not very confident in it, there are some holes. It still refers to Little Finger, but in a different way. Harrenhal is not that far off and is part of Little Finger's plan in some way. It's a place with a lot of suffering and the rumor around dannele Lothston is that she bathed in blood, hence the blood. Petyr or Peter also has etymology derived from rock or stone. so Petyr is basically stone man. Catelyn was also heading towards a storm which could be conflict but could also be Beric dondarrion he has purple lightning on a black field with 4 pointed stars as his coat of arms.

I still cling to the idea that Bran named his wolf "Summer" in order to counteract or fight against the coming of Winter. The crow says something like, "Now you know why you must live" and Bran still doesn't know... so the crow clarifies "Because Winter is coming". From all of this I get a picture of a terrible wintry beast of some kind NAMED "Winter"... some creature is ACTUALLY coming... so Bran wants his beast/wolf to help survive the whole ordeal and appropriately names his dire wolf "Summer". Do I cling to this idea irrationally? It is not clear at all that Bran must live because the season of winter is coming... winter has come uncounted times before Bran was even born, so why must he live THIS time? There is more to this... this time is different somehow... and so I feel like the ice dragon or the winged wolf is named "Winter". I don't hear anyone else discussing any theory like this and so I wonder if I'm just a bit off my rocker with this.
@KingOfWinter2 жыл бұрын
I think this is a perfectly reasonable assumption. The Night King on a Ice Dragon is the most badass thing I can think of for an epic clash at the end of the story lol

Well, if you read the Ice Dragon and extrapolate from it, then Winter was probably the Ice Dragon killed by the Great Empire of the Dawn dragons... And the place it fell became Winterfell. The perpetually cold pool in the Godswood would be the exact spot. The little girl from the story, Adara(?) was probably the prototype for Night's Queen, although I am not sure where exactly she would fit in, since in the actual books she ruled from Nightfort.

This chapter, Bran's very first dream with the 3 eyed crow, Brans straight up asks him if he really is a crow. That should put to bed that Bloodraven is the 3 eyed crow. Because the crow does not at all have the same reaction as Bloodraven and Bloodraven should have understood he was referring to the dreams if he was the crow. Instead he answers he was once a crow of the Night's Watch, as if it was the first time he was asked that.

The different types of wings I feel has to do with brans situation. If you have wings like a bird you can get yourself out of any situation aka this fall. Meanwhile other things like chickens or something have wings and can only slow the fall but still fall. Bran meanwhile used his arms or "wings" to try and slow down his descent crashing into the earth. True wings my guess represent the freedom to do what you want to do as bran does some horrible things later without thinking about it hearing what 6 skins thinks are abominations yet bran is doing them aside using another's skin to mate. Meanwhile fake wings you have to listen to the rules and follow them as falling could represent being tied down to the natural order of things. Just my thoughts.

Bran's "dream" remind me a lot of what people call: astral projection. It's a concious out of body experience where your soul leaves your body and you are able to travel the astral realm. Supposedly it's only achievable while your body is sleeping but your mind is awake, seeing with what I guess is your "third eye". Supposedly you're able to see other projectors as well as lower and higher dimensional beings (demons and angels, in Christian terms). The only things that break the similarity are that astral projection is associated with a silver cord connecting you to your real body, and that you fly and don't fall uncontrollably. People have reported to experience out of body experiences when near death (during surgeries and the like). Maybe this happened to Bran and the three-eyed crow took the opportunity to teach him astral projection at will. Edit: It's also worth mentioning that this is considered taboo in some religions as these lower dimensional beings can possess you and cause you harm. Side note: If you're into metal, you'd be surprised to know that it's what Gojiras album From Mars To Sirius portrays along with some songs from The Way Of All Flesh
