I didn’t understand why I even needed it if I can find the max/min with first derivative test.. but now I understand that finding the second derivative and the the zeros and making a sign diagram gives me the inflection points. When finding the derivative (2nd) of f(x) = 4x(x^2 - 1), it is easier to expand the function to 4x^3 - 4x instead of using the product rule.
