So in Summary, The lights totally reflects only from mediums of higher index of refraction. The mathematical definition of the critical angle is the angle, at which the calculated angle of refraction is 90°. The critical angle is associated only to a pair of mediums and it is the angle, after which the lower index medium starts reflecting light coming from high index medium.
@geogaddi846 жыл бұрын

14:00 I think you were mistaken here The index of the air should have been accompanied with the angle of incidence (40) not the angle of refraction (90) so the equation is n1 sin40 = n2 sin90 n2 will equal 0.642

Currently studying for a physics exam. In example #4, since glass is equal to 1.5 and water is equal to 1.33 (therefore glass has a higher index of refraction than water), shouldn't glass have an angle of 90 degrees and we should solve for the angle on water?

do we have to know how much it refracts from less dense to more dense medium or do we just make a ray that is obviously closer to normal plz tell me i have an exam tmrw
@TheOrganicChemistryTutor7 жыл бұрын
The drawing doesn't have to perfect. If the light ray travels from a medium with a low index of refraction to a higher one, the second ray should be drawn closer to the normal line.

For the second question, I had put solid (n1) to air (n2) since it's going from solid to air. Then I transposed for the unknown n1. Is the approach still okay as I got the same answer? Also,why was the second medium(air) used as n1 in the video?
