Don't worry, just keep asking yourself "why does that make sense?" As you're working a problem, remember the fundamentals you've built until this point and ask "how does then and now work together?" And break it up into small steps instead of seeing it as 1 big problem. If you try for long enough, it'll come as easy as breathing

53:57 you made a mistake, shouldn’t the 4 ohm resistor be 4i2 not 4i1? The current going through the 4 ohm resistor should be i2 not i1.

I1-I2-I3 + the I3 + the I2 get the I1 from the parallel rule where It = I1+I2+I3 they add up because it is two wire connect to one

Thank you for explaining all this very well! I have one doubt though! Isn't it -4I2, instead of -4I1 at 54:00 , or is that i got it wrong? would be very helpful to get an answer. thank you so much again!

I thought that too but since the 4ohm resister is after the last junction all the currents have recombine to make I1 again.

sum of I in = Sum of I out at the junction Therefore, I2 + (I1 - I2) = I1 That is how he got 4*I1

I finally understand my linear circuits class!!!! thank youuuuuu The labs have been fun but the theory has been killing me (I won't lie, I didn't pay a lot of attention at first and by the time my brain came back to me i was so lost) I have a study group tomorrow and I think I'm actually confident i can clear things up if asked

In the last circuit example in the first loop: why does I2 not continue in the horizontal 4ohm resistor? Why is it obvious I1?

It's kind of hard to explain but with the direction of current he chose, I1 has to go through that 4 ohm resistor because it is in series with the 20V battery and the 2 ohm resistor which each have I1 going through them. Essentially, I1 is the initial current that then flows into the parallel elements until it returns back with the same current remaining. Look back at the first example. 4 amps flow from the battery into the junction, where it splits into 3 amps and 1 amp, until it returns again with 4 amps to go back through the battery. The total current is never lost when returning to the initial position. Again, this is all relative to the direction of current that he chooses.

@@delicate_vet I don't understand what you are asking. Which example specifically? KVL uses a combination of all the currents in the voltage expressions, not just 1.

Wouldn't the equation at 54:26 be 14=2I1 + 12I2 as I2 is passing through the resistor of 4 ohms?

When additional Voltage Sources are added to the circuit, it causes the amps to act funny since the amps created from the different Voltage Sources can meet up with each other and strengthen the current. In this case, the Amps from the 8 Volt Battery would not go to the Negative Terminal of the 20 Volt battery, rather the 8 Volt Battery will go to it's own Negative Terminal, therefore, the Amps aren't being boosted by the 8 Volt Battery at the 4 Ohms Resistor like it is at i² Resistor, therefore, when the 20 Volt Battery completes its circuit at the 4 Ohm Resistor, it will not have the Amp boost from the 8 Volt Batrery, so it will use its original Amps that it had, which is i¹. And the reason why is because all Amps, AKA Current, wants to return to it's original source that produced it. The Current will not settle for a different Voltage Source, AKA Battery, that did not produce it.
