🎯 Key points for quick navigation: 00:01 *🔍 Understanding product prediction is easier when identifying the type of chemical reaction.* 00:16 *🔥 Combustion reactions with hydrocarbons produce carbon dioxide and water when excess oxygen is present.* 00:45 *⚖️ Balancing chemical equations ensures that the number of atoms is equal on both sides of the reaction.* 02:06 *⚙️ A combination reaction occurs when two elements react to form a compound, such as zinc oxide from zinc and oxygen.* 03:49 *🌡️ Heating a metal carbonate produces carbon dioxide and a metal oxide, a key concept in thermal decomposition reactions.* 06:08 *💧 Heating metal hydroxides results in water evaporation and formation of corresponding metal oxides.* 09:01 *🎩 Single replacement reactions involve a metal displacing another metal from a compound, as seen in zinc reacting with hydrochloric acid.* 11:12 *⚗️ Double replacement reactions occur when components of two compounds swap places, often forming a solid in precipitation reactions.* 15:31 *🌊 Neutralization reactions between strong acids and strong bases produce water and a salt, indicating a chemical change.* Made with HARPA AI

So how are we gonna figure out the ion charge of iron when we asked to predict the product of the chemical equation For ex can we change this equation fe + cucl2- fecl2 +cu to Fe+ cucl2-fecl3+cu🙄🙄

For People who are Confused about Single Replacement. The General Rule for Single Replacement: A +BC = B+ AC When the A is a metal and BC is a compound consists of one metal: The more reactive metal will always replace the less reactive metal. This is why Fe replaces the Cu in CuCl, because Cu is less reactive than Fe. When A is halogen and BC is compound consists of one halogen: The more reactive halogen will always replace the less reactive halogen. This is why Cl replaces the Br in NaBr, because Br is less reactive than Cl. The reactivity of metals and halogen can be found on Metal Activity Series and Halogen Activity Series. I hope my comment helps! Good Luck on Your Test!

How do you know which one pairs up

@@MarcDufresneosorusrex the four types of a chemical reaction are: Synthesis- in which two reactants react to form one product, Combustion- when oxygen reacts with a substance and releases energy in the form of heat and light, double replacement- two compounds reacting together, and single replacement- when one element and one compound react together

OMG this is incredibly monotonic and exactly the kind of teacher you would grow to hate. Why can't more people make science fun and appealable to the intended audience!?! Thank you, Tyler DeWitt, for opening my eyes to that kind of teaching we all crave

I think he made a mistake in the first equation. He said there were 2 oxygen atoms in H2O but there is only one. (1:05 - 1:10)

Yes i agree, there are also many other mistakes in this video. Be sure to check it! I would prefer you to watch Tyler Dewitt's videos on KZbin. He's got some skills.

There are 2 from water because there is a 2 in front of h2o in this caseso in total there are 2 oxygens

He was balancing the equation and with the coefficient being 2 it makes the oxygen also have 2 in it

okay, so iron has multiple possible charges. How do you know what the charge of the iron is when its's all by itself on the left side of the the reaction
@5kunk157h35h174 жыл бұрын
It can say Fe[II] or Fe[III] to clarify which charge it has. The letters are roman numerals and read as 2 and 3.

I am in high school and I have to study this so my question is we know that Zn has only one oxidation case which is +2 but If we used some element that have more than one oxidation case like iron which has +2 +3 +4 +5 +6 but +2 and +3 are the most common because Fe is a transitional metal and most of them has more than one case so how we can predict the products of Fe + O2 reaction is it Fe2O3 or FeO please I need any one to answer this question so bad it will save me from memorizing a lot of equations like this one 2Fe + 3Cl2 -> 2Fecl3 it is the most simplest one. and please refer me to some video or article or at least give me some keywords to search for if you can.
@n95834 жыл бұрын
Fe isn't bonded with another element so the chances are that it will have a +2 or +3. Fe + O2= if you predict the reaction you will get Fe2O3 and if you balance it out you get Feo
@mosup50074 жыл бұрын
@@n9583 as I understood it will get us both so the result will be Fe3O4 since it contains FeO and Fe2O3 right

I think now I may got that part of the question but I still can't understand how each element chose its Oxidation state in the reaction is it depends on the heat or some other factor and how I should know it in every reaction for every element

in case you guys are confused about balancing, know that if theres a coefficient in front, its basically goes by distributive property and applies to all the elements after that
