This physics video tutorial explains how to calculate the drift velocity of an electron in a conductor as well as the current density. The drift velocity depends on the electric current flowing through the metal, the cross sectional area of the conductor, the number of free electrons per cubic meter in the metal and the charge per electron. The current density is equal to the electric current divided by the cross sectional area. This video explains how to calculate the number of free electrons per cubic meter given the density of the metal and how to calculate the density of the metal given the number of free electrons per cubic meter. This tutorial contains plenty of examples and practice problems.
