I used the law of sines for the triangle of 30 degrees, 120 degrees and 30 degrees. Calculated the hypotenuse for the triangle 90 degrees, 60 degrees and 30 degrees using the law of sines. The length for h was the same as in the video. JG knows how to do same as he has shown in other videos. Thanks for the fine teach. This is a valuable video for the solution by this method. Thanks again.

the only way to help this guy back is to watch the ads that popping out on his video and I'm going to write this comment to all of his video for you to know you can help him back by just watching his ads

Diff approach: get the tangent value of angle 60 and 30 then isolate x, then you can now equal the equations to each other. This will give you the value of h directly. Nevertheless, there are tons of ways to solve a problem.

Another approach: We can see that the obtuse triangle is isosceles. So hypotenuse of the right triangle with 60 degrees is 500. Here, the third angle of that right triangle is 30 degrees. hypotenuse : h = 2: sqrt(3) solving this gives h = 250sqrt(3).

I did the same but used the law of sines in the latter part, giving me the equation h/sin60° = 500/sin90°. Sin90° equates to 1 so the we can easily find the value of h from h=500sin60°.

You can also use the law of sines in this particular problem, it will be much faster.

Dear The Organic Chemistry Tutor, Just like you mentioned Tan (60°) = sqrt (3) and Tan (30°) = 1/sqrt (3) = sqrt (3)/3 I'm assuming these things are something you're just familiar with. But what if we want to solve a triangle with numbers we are unfamiliar with. Are we to know how to convert such things in a simplified form manually? Or are we to know how they are with prior knowledge?
