you could just say that gravity is conservative because the change in kinetical energy(speed) of the object will be the same at the end no matter where we throw it if the height is the same while with friction, the more time an object spends on the road the work will be higher. like you will step on more rocks that can interrupt your motion and slow you down if you dont go in the straight line
@ColinWatters Жыл бұрын
I like to consider a mountain climber.. if he leaves his hotel, climbs a mountain and then return to his hotel, the work he does against gravity is zero because his starting and ending height is the same. Pe = mgh - mgh = 0. His route up the mountain (hard or difficult) doesn't figure anywhere in the maths.

can nonconservative force be used interchangeably with external force?
@yanbingzhu46503 жыл бұрын
Isn’t the work done by the net force equals to the change of the mechanical energy, or equals to the change of kinetic energy and the weight potential energy?
@rishikadhikari63262 жыл бұрын
I don't think we calculate the work done by net force. Work done by different forces are calculated. If they are added together they equal net work. And no matter what, net work always equals change in kinetic energy of the object. So basically, Net work = sum of work done by different forces acting on the object. But understand that Work by each force can be calculated as F*d*cos(theta) so not all forces acting on an object will do work on that object. Also, remember that when calculating work done by conservative force such as gravity, just use the height not the actual displacement because work done by conservative force is independent of the path covered. I hope this helps.

I was told today that a conservative force is always a radial force. That doesn't seem to be right, but I'm wondering if there is a way to classify if more than just that it's non-conservative if it pushes or pulls. Does anyone know of another way to classify conservative and non-conservative forces?

There is only one thing that bothers me, why change in potential energy is the negetive of work done by conservative force, and which force are we talking about here I mean the one that is doing the work or the one that is opposing it, like if I lift an object to a height h the work done by me should be positive but the work done by gravity is it the negetive of potential energy gained by object😢😢😢😢

But wouldn’t the work done by gravity in your first example be greater with the longer path? Since W=Fd, and the distance is longer?
@harshrajjadhav85967 жыл бұрын
Actually work=force(vector).distance(vector) or work=force.distance.cosx
@wesly64 жыл бұрын
The distance between the 2 points is the same,the road is different
@raunakjhavats95714 жыл бұрын
Its not w=fd; its actually force × displacement, and displacement is same in both , regardless the distance covered🕊💟
@jedemmaludjecu22293 жыл бұрын
the chenge of kinetical energy of the object will be the same so it doesnt matter
@ShalomSiyoum7 ай бұрын
I'm just confused as to why the work done by the friction is greater in path 2 than in path 1. The work done depends on the displacement no? So even if path 2 has a longer distance it still has the same displacement from point A to B in both paths respectively. Wouldn't this cause the work done to be equal in both paths?
@RajeshwariSunoji2 ай бұрын
But it has more friction mate. Friction is also an additive force in this case. It adds up and makes it a bit more than work done in path A
@xodanny29553 жыл бұрын
where r u getting all these equations ? are they given or some
@shanubiswas42706 жыл бұрын
Nice☺ But I have a question if F=(1/x)i is a conservative force then why work done in this case=0 Did I do here wrong calculation? pls reply...
@GodGurdjieff4 жыл бұрын
Your question was not clear, but work done can be zero.
@GodGurdjieff4 жыл бұрын
Work done is zero doesn't mean that you didn't work, It may mean that what you did actually increased it's potential or kinetic energy in such a way that in order to attain equilibrium, that body again reversed the work or appended it's energy somehow.
