0:01 The reason there is an "index number of 2" is because the little symbol that represents a "square root" (the side ways "L" with a squiggly line) is a chopped off corner of an actual square. A cube root should actually have an extra diagonal line, like chopping off the corner of a cube, and there should also be an invisible "3" I do not understand the purpose of doing the absolute value thing if you get an odd exponent... the dude just says "it is so" and doesn't explain any further.

@@maxgraves2187 i did but it works sometimes and not others. why is the rule siding with the one that doesn't work instead of the one that works? it seems to me like a paradox, like (-1)^2 inside a square root, when its UNSOLVED you can take out the -1 because technically the square of -1 is (-1)^2. but if you actually go ahead and solve it then it becomes root(1^2) which then equals 1. why does the rule side with the later instead of the former when they both technically work?

This is a little late but basically when you take a fraction exponent and turn it into a radical, the denominator (3) becomes the index and the numerator (1) becomes the exponent.

can someone explain 5:05? it simplified the square root of 75 and the final answer was 3 to the square root of 5. how does this equal 75 im confused.
@nomis99134 жыл бұрын
The final answer is 5 times the square root of 3. This is because the square root of 75 can be broken down as the same thing as the square root of 25 times the square root of three (because 25 x 3 = 75). We can then take the square root of 25 because we know it’s 5, but the square root of 3 isn’t a whole number, so we leave the square root of 3 written as it is. So the final answer is 5 multiplied by the square root of 3, which is what he wrote. Hope this helps!

Ya'll lying bc this made me more confused. Wth is the index
@ineedsIeep Жыл бұрын
the index is the number in between the check mark and the root. it denotes what the number inside is going to be squared/cubed/etc by. for example, in a normal square root (you can't see a number in between because this is the "default") the index is 2 because you're finding a number that equals the number inside the square root when it times itself twice. if there's like a 3 in between the check mark of the root symbol and the number inside is 27, then the answer would be 3 because 3*3*3 = 27. see what I mean?
