OI Ancient Literature Workshops, Session 4: The Autobiography of Hadrian?

Does the OI collection boast the only known fragment of Emperor Hadrian's autobiography? OI professor Brian Muhs examines OIM E8349 to find out whether the text copied on the papyrus is actually a bit from the Roman emperor's life history.
In "The Autobiography of Hadrian?" offers a look into Egypt during the time of the Romans, while furthering a discussion that examines how writing materials were used and reused in the ancient world.

I just realised that what Marguerite Yourcenar tried to do with her book "Memoirs of Hadrian" was essentially filling the gap left by this lost autobiography.

You have to wonder how many other emperors were slandered after death by senators. i guess slander is better than assassination.

I'm not sure the top of the Castel Sant'Angelo can be called a 'modern reconstruction'. Better it's a renaissance construction, and one that continued the late antique refashioning of the mausaleum into a part of the defences of the city of Rome,
