As you said, "Why is there no windscreen?" Yea, the legs are more of a hazard than a benefit. The magnet is a good idea if the legs are functionally safe. A possible mod for the company would be a separate stand/windscreen the stove could set in. The windscreen could have separate flip up panels for the sides of the windscreen. Your review was very informative and thought-provoking. Thanks again.

Methinks the pot/kettle supports glowing red hot when folded in and in direct exposure to the burner flame isn't too good. Perhaps wider splayed legs would make it more sturdy too.

Hi Luke! That one is for sure a pass for me. That little BRS stove doesn't have ignitors, but it DOES have a fuel pipe next to the burner on both burners. I LOVE the one I have. It folds up so nice and compact for a two burner stove!

MSR Pocketrocket 2.0 is good enough for me, packs easy boils as fast, takes less space. I also got a trangia kitchen I got on sale with tea/coffee pot, 2 difference sized pots and a pan/lid, for like 70 bucks, also can get the fuel adaptor for it to make it more versitale for a small amount if I want. Thanks for the review, it's cool to see what you test and what to stay away from. Much appreciated.

Wondering if having the pot supports turned inward, blocking half of the flames from directly hitting the pot, has a significant impact on the efficiency. When I see so much glowing metal that is not in contact with the pot, I immediately think of it as a heat sink that is piping BTUs into the chassis of the stove instead of heating my pot...

Are you sure the stove is designed to have the supports for the PAN turned INWARD during operation? The pan supports were glowing red hot while turned inward. That is a HUGE THERMAL STRESS.

Been using the original version of the Saturn for the last year and a bit, and it's been a fairly solid performer. We use the stove for cooking, and a Kelly Kettle for the tea. Was interested to see what improvements were made, but they appear to be tinkering for the sake of it.

Myself, I don't have a need for something like this. I can see a way to gain some height to make it easier to use while standing next to it. PVC pipe with some straight couplers with plastic spikes on the end to stick into the ground. But, with a little modding, you can do that to even cheaper stoves and have an easier time with it.
@dropshot1967
@dropshot1967 Ай бұрын
I suspect the instability has more to do with how wide the stance of the legs is (the legs are not much wider than the stove itself). A tripod is the easiest way to get three stable legs on uneven ground. With four legs the ground needs to be more even. I agree with the rest of your review except for the sale on amazon. Amazon is not as widely used for us in the Netherlands

Hi Luke, great review as usual but just a thought, have you tried the inverter canister with the pot support outside from the burner? I noticed you kept the supports inside right on the burner and they went red incandescent maybe that dispersed and lowered the power of the burner?Just a thought......

A wider and more adjustable tripod would help with stability on rough terrain, similar to camera tripods, but with only 2 settings and a narrow tripod, that even looks dangerous. I agree a fourth leg would help, but I cant think it would help as much as more adujstability in the legs in camping situations. Maybe someone will come up with a magnetic caddy so the fuel canister can be upright while keeping the canister off the ground as well.

The FireMaple stove looks similar to the Snow Peak GigaPower LI Stove, which has four telescoping legs with a built-in windscreen; the fuel canister can be mounted inverted. The Snow Peak is made in Japan and it's very expensive.

At 78 I always appreciate the thumbs up reminder, thanks and I would not pay that for the stove. I know some of the cost is for the legs, and I would never consider even trying to use them. Toss the legs and lower the price would be a good marketing idea. I'm also betting the odor will go away with a little use. God bless.

The reason you invert the fuel is for cold days the fuel doesn’t perform well in cold weather so you have to heat the fuel and invert the tank, I would agree the legs are a gimmick, but the burner has high performance, the smell will me the manufacturer oils burning off your stove, like all stoves even your home stove your suppose to do a burn in to burn of oils the is very common. The firemaple products are very good and lots of people use them and have great reviews. You do realize all products are made in Asia because of low manufacturing costs, if these items were made in the west they would coast you 5 x as much if not more.

Nah, I don't like it. It's too "busy." You got 4 feet on the unit--that's simple stable. And 3 legs, no matter the height, makes it top-heavy and just wobbles. And why would anyone need to invert the canister? For what? It's "over-engineered" and kinda sketchy. Just stick to what already works, don't tweek something that doesn't need tweeking, it doesn't improve it. I would use the legs as Green Elephant poles for my hamster's tent.
