You should put a cheap rain gauge nearby when doing these tests. Give a clear indication of just how much rain fell during the testing. Just a thought. Love the channel. Only Utube I actually trust the reviews of products. M.

I can vouch for this tent having owned mine for a few months now and have used it for a few weekend camping trips. I have had it in rain, thunderstorms and hot sun with humidity. The thing is amazing and I love the awning - which I have left open for rain and haven't had much issue - wind dependent. One thing I will say, and I am by no means a tent expert, but if you adjust the anchor points of those side guy lines on the arcs to be more lateral and pull the arcs outwards, you can get rid of the sag. Just a suggestion for anyone wondering if there is a fix as this worked well for me in the rain.
@Im_With_Stupid

The way it should be done is to run all the guy points on their own lines so you can run those top lines out fairly straight and pull the sag out when it gets wet, so you're on the right track doing it the way you did. Nylon sags and has to be readjusted. That's just the nature of the material. One Tigris knows it, but they short you four lines and four stakes to cut costs and shave weight off the spec sheet. I'm sure it's a great tent, but way too many of these companies do sneaky crap like this. Then you get their tent home and realize you really need four more guy lines and stakes to make it work right and of course it didn't come with a groundsheet, so you have to buy that, too, and suddenly your actual pack weight is nothing like what the manufacturer claims.

On all nylon tents I extend the guy lines with about 2 feet of flex-cord (bungee) at the outer end. That way the tent tightens itself continuously.

@@captaincarl1603 Have you tried that on a tunnel tent? Because the reason nylon sags is because it absorbs water and expands like a sponge. That's a lot of unsupported weight and it seems like it'd just stretch the cord before the cord pulled out the sag.

@captaincarl1603 10 ай бұрын
@@Im_With_Stupid Yes I have. I peg out the flex-cord from the top of the arched poles with maximum tension from the beginning. Then when the fabric start to sag, the flex-cord pulls the poles outwards and then the fabric tightens.

With the price and the tent being made for winter in mind, I would say this is really worth it. However, with the sag on just rain alone, makes me wonder how the sagging when snow fall sets in might add unneeded stress to the tent itself. If this tent can pass the winter test then I would get it for cold weather use.

Exactly - real 4-season tents can endure cold temps and the weight of a snowfall. The amount of sag just in the rain is proof that it won't hold up to heavy wet snow!

I can vouch for the sag, I bought one almost as soon as OneTigris dropped it... Maybe not the best move but it looked super cool! I've officially done a 3 day/night near constant rain test on my last trip. The tent itself stayed dry you have have to make sure the cover isn't resting on the tent itself once it gets wet. The sag was a pretty real issue initially then I rigged up guidelines right where you mentioned it needed some and it worked great, by the end of the weekend I had the hang of adjusting it and it kept my stuff dry all weekend 👍 pretty hot inside in the heat for obvious reasons... but my next big test is hopefully going to be snow once we have some again. Also the factory waterproofing spray could use aother coat on the consumer end

I was looking at the tent. It looks like they have two guyout points on the tent combined into one connection. I ordered one of these tents. It has not arrived yet. I want to look at that connection more closely when I receive my tent. I might just ignore that point, and just tie a guy line to the top tie out points. I think that would provide more tension to the top of the tent, but I am not positive it would fix the sag issue.

The first trip out with mine turned into three days of near continuous light to moderate rain. No leaks, but I had that same sagging and pooling issue and came to the same conclusion; although I thought some of it may have been an issue with how I set it up. Due to rocks and thick shrub locations I was unable to get the guylines at as much of angle as I would have preferred and were more inline with the direction of the poles than Luke has them here. In subsequent trips it has been more dry but I have also taken to using the longest length on the guyline that I can and I also set them at a far steeper angle outward from the poles, getting closer to perpendicular to the poles. This helps me pull the tent tighter, and I have more room for tightening it later if the fabric sags. In the heat this tent can get hot as it is not well ventilated, but for myself so far I have been fine with opening the doors and adjusting the awning to block rain but still move air. Last weekend I had the tent out in some strong gusty winds at a formal campground. Other tents were ripped but the Cometa held up without issue. Quality is good, size is huge although it can only really hold two people at most, and in the formal campground it actually became a bit of a talking point due to the unique shape and some mentioning they had not seen a black tent before.

Always better to slightly loosen guy lines in prolonged wet weather. If you keep tightening them the seam sealing will eventually fail. Of course, you have to tighten in high winds or snow. A little pooling doesn't matter if the pool size is self-limiting, and the tent isn't leaking. Gives you a chance to get some free water.

another idea to cure the fabric stretching would be for the manufacturer to have a stretcher bar inserted at the top between the two hoop poles either internally or externally. Even with adding stakeout points at the top of the hoops it is possible to have some degree of stretching from the guidelines which would also need adjusting.

Luke this episode reminds me back about 25 years ago. I had gone camping with my friends. We arrived friday night set up camp no problem. We awoke Saturday morning to a storm rolling in, there was no forecast for rain, but we were getting it like it or not. At the time I had a cheep non-namebrand three season tent. I think i paid $75 for it. Well, anyway it started to rain and rain eventually everything in my tent was getting wet, and we were starting to get standing puddles I put the sleeping bags in the car before they got soaked and my buddy and I retreated to our friends tent trailer. After breakfast and as noon was approaching we found out that the rain was only going to get worse. We cut the trip short packed up and went home. The first thing I did after cleaning everything up and putting it away, was Call up Cabelas and ordered their 8 man geodesic Alaskan Guide doom tent with deluxe Alaskan vestibule. I had my eye on this tent for a long time. The vestibule could sleep 4 or 5 people itself. As a matter of fact, the vestibule looks just like the Cometa. With the vestibule (which was sold separately) the whole thing coat me $700. Next camping trip that it raind the tent practically paid for itself. The rain started late Saturday night, and it poured and poured. I had every one brake down their tents and packed it in the vestibule and everyone slept in my tent. When we got up the next morning there was a pool on the top of my tent where the three tent polls met. I easily dumped that off the top of the tent. Everything inside both the tent and vestibule was dry. The rest of the forest was soaked but where my tent stood was still dry as a bone!

Run eight guy lines instead of four, or six lines with the top points on a single line each, with the top lines parallel to the tent and the sag will probably pull right out. Only supplying four lines is just the maker scrounging for every nickel they can save on production costs, while knowing damn well that's not going to be enough in real world use.

With that much sagging, we REALLY needed an internal view after the first several hours, to see it's impact on movement and overall comfort for sitting in the lowered useable internal area. Looks are one thing, but if it just continues to sag and encroach on your space, that gets really clostrophobic...QUICK ! And having to go out in the rain to readjust the guy lines that ARE availble, just to get the space back inside ? That's a fairly hard pass for me to spend $$ on a tent ! At the beginning of this video there are no big rocks on top of any guy lines/stakes, something I'd want knowing the ground is goind to be wet & strong gusty winds. Imagine how much snow would be collected in the sagging exterior. I do like that it is waterproof & is a robust tunnel design, but not for MEeee. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada.

The sagging is a fix if you want to get creative. Supposing on how creative one wishes to be, it can be a simple fix to a bit more complicated. That depends on the number of parts: I just tend to think that too simple is less reliable. Any way a simple but not too simple fix: Just order another pole for the tent and make some mods for use of it on the inside. Make some height adjusting sleeves or feet with rubber end guards to protect the tent floor. Place a soft silicone wrap around the center to keep the pull from sliding at the top. You can, if it pleases you, create a bit more of a complicated interior frame support system. It is up to your imagination and resources. The way I am looking at this tent is if it can make it through the rest of Luke’s tests I will be happy to put this one on the contender list. Fingers crossed.

Love the channel, you put out some very useful content. Ref. your recent video about Fjallraven, I have a Fjallraven Abisko Lite 1. It’s quite an expensive tent, so I was disappointed when I discovered that it leaked. I’ve since heard of several other people with the same problem. I would be interested to see you put one through your waterproof test. I would send you mine to test, but I needed to use it so had to seam seal it.. plus I’m in the UK. Keep up the great work!

Try making a supporting arch made of pool noodles. Connect them with short lengths of broom handle. Place this in the middle of the tent.

In Canada, real 4-Season tents mean it can bear a snow load if it snows all night. This tent looks very weak at the top with no X-ing poles to bear the snow weight. How well would it work in a snowstorm?

I'm wondering if a ridge line above the center of the tent and have the highest guide line connections tied to it would help with that sag. Or if tent clips on the top of the pole bends would give extra tie points to help stretch out those weak areas. Just a couple thoughts.

Needs a rigid pole at the top to counter the sag.

Absolutely! Doesn't seem like a bad tent but a ridge pole is definitely needed. Making that many adjustments over a night is not going to be fun.

Hey man. It's sagging so bad because it's guyed out wrong, not because it needs more guy points. The tent comes with four lines so One Tigris can save a few nickels and short the weight for marketing purposes, but it's not enough. Put the top points on their own lines and run them more in parallel to the tent. The sag will pull right out and you'll only have to do it once.

It seems like if they added a third pole in the middle, it would eliminate the sag. Idk. Just looks like a lot of fabric that’s not supported. I’m sure I could come up with something and make it an awesome tent. Like you’ve said before though, shouldn’t have to modify a tent to perform. That said. It is a cheap tent so, might be worth it. It’s crazy. Most of their other tents have almost excessive amounts of tie off points.

Could you please do a review and a water test? On a Napier sportz truck bed tent... I just recently bought one for my toyota tacoma. I do believe they rate it for a 3+ season tent. It had good reviews, but nobody did a real true test on it. Like you do your tents I'm going to be trying it out for the first time on Labor Day, Up on Mount Hood in Oregon.i gess will see how it works fingers crossed. and I love your videos. And I always turn to you as far as my camping gear. And thank you for all the great videos that you do. And keep it up, love your channel. Your friend KR MOTO

I know you want suggestions for tents to review, but have you considered getting a Wacaco Nanopresso (plus the Barista Kit) and testing that one? You seem to enjoy your morning coffee and that little coffee maker will suprise you. It just needs some ground coffee (preferably 100% Arabica, for espresso) and hot water. Also, what's your opinion on the Olantern Classic Mini?
