Ngl, it's the price, heavy anti customer practices, terrible rules etc. That drove me out of ever buying a GW kit anymore and especially thanks to 3d printing and other healthier game systems and communities. Additionally I was wondering if you were going to do another video on OPR or perhaps work with them to create a 30k esc game similar to how GDF is a 40k esc game. Could be good practice before you make your own dedicated system and I know a lot of us here would love to have some 30k army books for OPR by people well versed in 30k to begin with. I think that's been the general consensus, that these are largely stop-gaps to fill the need until official assault/despoilers/breachers come out later on down the line when manufacturing space eases up a bit. As for why resin, probably for the same reason. GW makes all their plastic products out of (to my understanding) a single factory in England, and that because of this rather then producing everything all at once all the time, they rotate focusing on 1-2 titles mostly with some minor printing for other titles off in the corner. With the all-but-confirmed 10th edition launch for 40k supposed to happen this summer and WFB's return following that, those 2 are most likely eating up the lion's share of plastic production atm. Actually, that's also probably why GW have been trickling out mostly tanks, because (having worked with 3D printing and mold making I can assure you) those models are actually far easier to produce quickly without much energy. Infantry actually take a lot more time and energy to get create.

Fun fact, literally 24h after that announcement you could already find perfect replicate STL on the 3D printing circles. It really shows how easy to make thos 3D models are. You can easily print for a fraction of the price these bits now, and you can even miror them if you want to have some lefties and dual wielders in your squads.

Gw massively dropped the ball. Imagine this was plastic and in sets of 10 (you know like the guns)or heaven forbid released a full infantry despoiler / assault squad: They would be printing money - literally wouldn’t keep up with all demand as all night lords, blood angels, world eaters, sons of horus players start building their legions around them. It doesn’t make sense from a business perspective or a gameplay perspective.

But deep down I'd preferred the normal chainswords (like from mark IV tactical kit/despoiler squad and every pre-primaris marine kit) or the older variant (like from mark III tactical kit/all other despoiler squads but mark IV and mark II/V assault squad)

Lord wise I think the 40k model chainsword is upgraded much like power armor variants so to distinct the time period of the war gear plus artist wise I actually like the 30k chain sword but no way am I paying 20$+ for just 5 single chain blades

its to keep people from using 40k chainswords (as in more of a ''mind F'' thing''), so it makes it instantly recognizable that those arent 30k. (not that it matters in any way shape or form, but people are sensitive to it to keep it exactly how its represented in the pictures, especially 40k fans know what they like and don,t like). and a lot of players are worried that they can,t play with them if they are up against a ''40k puritan'' or don,t know what to say if such puritans call them out on that. so when next time geedubs comes with the LOOK WHAT WE GOT FOR YOU PEOPLE!!!!!! I just don’t care anymore… 8th Ed essentially killed 40k for me and they’ve managed to do it with the Heresy too. All interest in the continuing to read the books evaporated with the start Seige of Terra and now the model side is just a mess of things we never asked for, half measures for things we need or nothing at all for the other armies which STILL in 2023 aren’t playable. Seriously question. What do we need GW for anymore? Their new lore and retcons are trash and make the setting worse, their new designs are generally trash and are usually improved within a few days of being shown, by hobbyists then given away as free stls or for a decently priced…

You should just stick to eBay. I have only purchased things from GW that are ending production. eBay is by far the best source for models. I got a painted salamanders storm eagle for $70 bucks. Left arm fires the bolt pistol, right arm holds the sword. And Hooper drives the boat, Chief. I had the same issues with the lack of variety. I frequently switch the weapons from one hand to another, but I have a lot of experience doing so. I don’t mind doing it for special characters or something, but to have to do it in order to make a single squad not look like they’re all clones kind of sucks. Especially for people who are either new or just don’t have the confidence to try it. Sheer Pedantic Nitpick: It says 12 pieces, yet there are actually 13.

The elbow joint thing is the same as on the new plastic heavy weapons upgrades. The extra arms in the set are done like this which is bizzare and I think it's because it might be for mark 2? even though they look nothing like mk 2 arms

In fairness I do like the idea that despoilers are wearing MK6 because it kinda makes sense that a assault/shock trooper squad would use a lighter power armour types with extra sensor equipment for CQC efficiency and avoiding Heavy firepower. Blood angels, Raven Guard and maybe Sons of Horus benefit from despoiler squads.

For me the problem with fw is not the resin but price. Its just so pricy to equip ur army with melee weapons. I was really hoping for even plastic upgrade sprue like heavy wepons or support squad. Its even worse offering taking in cosiderations how many quality bits you can get at 50% of fw prices (and even then its really expensive to build cc force)

One thing I noticed about the "desoiler" arms, and why there isn't left and right hands for pistols/swords: there's only 5 sculpts in that box, pistol left arm, chain sword right arm, power axe right arm, no hand left arm, heavy chain sword left arm.

(Before watching the video) I suspect these are a quickly produced reaction to the demand for a despoiler plastic kit, hopefully as a stopgap until a plastic kit is ready to release. Recent FW resin kits are produced as casts of 3D printed masters, and the moulds for resin are comparatively cheap and quick to produce, so it's plausible that this product wasn't planned even just a couple of months ago. I'm hoping that an eventual plastic kit will be made in MkII or MkV. This is still a huge misstep by GW though, it isn't good for customers and brings back the very same issues that plastic kits are supposed to solve (ie you had to buy a million different resin kits to produce one basic unit)

I hate hearing how much GW charges aussie and u.s players, I'm u.k based and the AoD box cost £142 for me here and mk6 tactical marines cost just under £40. My understanding from friends in oz is that minimum wage over there is double over here, so your prices are 3 times sometimes 4 or 5 times higher in real terms. These decisions are why 3d printing and other game systems will one day over take GW, in the same way kodak didn't keep up with the times until it was too late.

I've seen a good bit of criticism of this between KZbin and Facebook Warhammer pages. It's really bonkers that they haven't seen the success of heavy and support weapons packs and gone "Hey, a melee weapons box will be grand!"

On the elbows thing: the Mk VI heavy weapons arms have the same elbow design, for what that's worth. Probably been pointed out by now, but oh well. I don't mind resin at all, it still holds very fine detail better than plastic, to this day. But with FW prices, this means the "official" way of making a Mk VI Despoiler squad is probably going to be almost twice the price of a bolter squad of the same size. I suspect this is just FW checking off a box, even though they know people with common sense will go to bits sites (or 3D print).

I was into the hobby hard for a few years but after I bought the new Heresy boxset and before I could even get 1/4 of the way through it, GW had already put out 10 new releases and the thought of catching up was insurmountable. Additionally life and burnout didn’t help. But I despise the beakies and it’s difficult to find motivation for something you don’t find appealing. I still support your channel man. I’ve loved hearing about 30k since your first videos, listening to them for a whole year before the second edition started being released, and I’ve wanted to start an army for just as long… but when I do, it will be 3D-printed. There is no longer any question of that. I will take the community’s worth of lovingly-modelled MK II, III and IV STL bundles and weapons, and all of the wonderful upgrades and consistent scale of it. I think I’ll make an Isstvan 3 loyalist force, battered but still fighting to their extinction. But I won’t take whatever this is. This is just poor satire :(

I think the reason why there are only chains word options is because there are only 5 sculpts for the mk 6 marines. If you look at the mk6 sprue if you buy a box of 20 dudes, you build each guy 4 times. That being said, why don't they just put 2 or 4 of the upgrade sprues in a box. Its pretty clear GW is trying to take my entire paycheck of me but fuck em, I'd rather browse 3d printers.

My primary issue with this release is that there are only 5 sets of arms. I was going to make a melee focus on Emperor's Children with despoilers and maybe assault squads however, I am not going to spend FW money on buying 8 sets of these. I like power axes and it is nice to see it because most other plastic kits only come with a power fist and power sword, but it would have been nice to have a kit with all the weapon options for a unit. Now that you've pointed out how there are only the right arms with chainswords we may see a separate blister pack with left arms holding chainswords. This preview is going to push the 3D printing to be a lot more favorable because it is cheaper in the long run. Thank you for the video and enjoy the weekend.

In 40k the melee weapon arm is the left, the range is the right, and it's annoying. 30k is the reverse of that, so still annoying. This is unironically a better extra arms/weapons kit to add variety to 40k space marines than it is to create despoilers.

I saw this release and should have been excited because I play world eaters and need despoilers, however all this is just disappointing. We know that they have the ability to make good despoilers, because they just made new khorne berzerkers so they have the bases for chainswords/axes and running marines in the mk6 scale. So not only did they not make it any cheaper to but into the melee factions like you said, but they also made disappointing upgrades. The marines don't look like despoilers, they look exactly like what they are tacticals with an arm swap. Thanks for another good video Macca. Buy bits (arms) from DA Ravenwing Knights. There is shitload of free arms (without hands) simmilar looking to mk III arms. And than glue hands with 3D printed axes.

Same old same old. GW making less to sell for more $$$. They do love their massive screw job at selling people non-viable force boxes and upgrade sprues so you have to buy 2-4 just to make a viable set... oh! And without the lube! I wouldn't expect anything less!

I kinda dislike how overdesigned and tacticool these mk VI arms are. Why did they make them like this? I think when they released Horus Heresy they needed to have a release plan for the basic troops to come out in plastic. No breachers, no assault marines, no despoilers, no recon marines. What a disappointment

They are hardly unique either, so anyone buying these over the plethora of 3D printed options, printed by yourselves or other options from Etsy etc, are either mugs or shills. There is no other explanation.

World Eaters fans still waiting for chainaxes to come in plastic instead of being an overpriced $25 blister pack... why cant these blisters be $15, that's much better. I want to support the company that made the game I like, but hey, I guess they want me to 3D print at this point. More chainaxe bits more me at a dirt cheap price of $5 for a plate of 20 chainaxes.

This kit has so many problems its not even funny. First of all, why does the arm armor is non standard? Wtf is that primaris style round piece on the elbow and why is the forearm different? Why are thos swords and pistols looking like that? That's not a standard design. Why is there only 5 of them for a unit that is minimum 10 unit? Why is this resin?
