One of the best painted dragons I have ever seen. The mistake made the green pop and set the tone for the color scheme. Very nice job!!!

I've been watching a bunch of your painting tutorials, and I have to say they are some of the best I've found on KZbin. I especially like that you incorporate your knowledge of color theory into both your painting and your explanation of the painting.

Hey man, your content is amazing, I have learned and grown from watching you paint. With every video comes new tip and it is awesome, you go above and beyond any other modeler on KZbin, I'm a particular fan of your Reaper series, as its more in my price budget and I would love to see you paint the Cthulhu from reaper, it's cheap, it's massive and I know you will have a blast painting it, and I know I'll have a blast watching it, keep up the work sir, you have inspired me and countless others, nice job.

I'm always impressed by the results you obtain considering the time you've spent and the fact we are talking about Bones models. It's something I really appreciate with your videos, you demonstrate it's possible to reach very nice painting quality with simple and quick techniques if you have a good undestanding of the colours theory as you have.Thanks a lot!

Doctor, a great paint job as always. I like the green brown body coloration. I am not really fond of purple mouths. If I painted it I would just stick with a pink/red mouth and tongue. But that is just what I prefer. Your mouth is painted well.

Hey Doc, fellow So Cal miniature painter and "Brookhurst" patron here...Lol! Great work as always and love to see another as passionate about their painting as I. We have met once or twice at Brookhurst where for a time I believe you were painting in the back! I too always love those "happy accidents" that lead to discovery's that improve what we do! I wish I had the patience to do videos of my work but I barely have time to post work to my poor website www.HistoricalHobbies.com. Hats off to you! People just don't realize the time and effort it takes to do these types of tutorials. I like the colors with the exception of the choice of "purple/Blue" in the mouth. I think it cheapens the whole effect, you have already pushed it with such a vibrant green the mouth (for my taste) is to much. I think a more traditional flesh/red would have made the dragon look more alive and believable. That just me who always goes a bit understated, bottom line still magnificent!

Hello. I am very new to miniature painting and first I wanted to say thank you for this step by step tutorial. I am trying to emulate what you have done to this exact dragon and so far I am happy with my interpretation. I have a question, though. I have an issue of my paint drying out on my palette pretty quickly and I find that I have to keep mixing more. Am I just really slow at painting or is there a trick to keeping the paint from drying out so fast? Even the washes seem to dry out faster than I can apply them in one sitting. Hope that makes sense.
@ThePaintingClinic
@ThePaintingClinic 5 жыл бұрын
I just add more water as necessary. You can also mix in some extender to slow the drying time, or try a wet palette.
@MasonIce1999
@MasonIce1999 5 жыл бұрын
@@ThePaintingClinic Thank you, I will look into the wet palette idea. One last thing, how much do you wet down your washes. I got to the step where you apply the blue/black wash and it completely took over my paint job. It looked like a charred green dragon and I will need to start over. Thanks so much for responding, I do enjoy painting and your creations are amazing and help a lot.

Great work. I have a question about washes. I've noticed that, depending on the base coat I have, washes sometimes do well, sometimes they run off (maybe because the base coat is too smooth). My Army Painter red spray leaves a smooth coat, which makes washes bead up/run off. This also happens a lot on my bones minis. Any tips on helping a wash work with a base coat that is too smooth? I thought about trying a dull coat before washing.
@TheRunesmythe
@TheRunesmythe 7 жыл бұрын
What are you using? Is it a pre-made wash (i.e. something like Agrax Earthshade, or Game Color Sepia wash) or is it something you're mixing yourself? If you're mixing it yourself, what are you using to dilute it with? I ask because usually, if something refuses to adhere, its either because of a glossy, very smooth surface or its a weird chemical reaction. This is especially true if you're using just water to dilute your washes; it has to do not only with the surface its being applied to but also the surface tension of water. In the case of thinning with water, try adding something like a small amount of dish soap to break the surface tension, or combine it with something like a matte medium or glaze medium. You could apply a coat of matte varnish before applying the wash, but the only drawback is that *everything* sticks to a matte surface, meaning that if you do an all over wash its going to stain the raised surfaces as well as darkening the recesses and it will be much harder to clean up afterwards.

I am about to paint my first larger dragon, and I was curious: Would you recommend a beginner to prime the parts, paint those, then assemble the dragon, or assemble it first, then prime, then paint? I'm not sure if painting the dissassembled parts makes it easier for a beginner or not.
@ThePaintingClinic
@ThePaintingClinic 8 жыл бұрын
Assemble before paint because there may be gaps to fill. You can leave obviously different sections apart. In this case, say, the dragon and the rock.

Hello, question. At the begin the miniature is already green, then you paint it gray, but then its green again. Is there any reason you paint gray over green, to paint green again?
@TheRunesmythe
@TheRunesmythe 7 жыл бұрын
I'm not seeing it go back to gray at any point. Maybe its the angle of the miniature? At one point, as he's applying the base coat in the airbrush booth he both turns the miniature and sets it down so that the top surface is exposed, showing the gray primer where he hadn't painted the base coat yet.
