thats cuz 'pop punk' already holds a stigma in the name.. you listen to a 'pop' punk garage band (assuming like in 'Pop music', pop stands for popular) and their equipment is low quality and the band never gets more than a 10k on their songs it doesnt really feel like 'pop' to me. i just call it punk, whether its the dope old school punk i respect that got us this genre in the first place, punk rock, alternative punk, pop punk.. people get so hung up on genres , they're useful to classify somewhat but not when people dont listen to something theyd potentially like because of a naysay around it

@jarrett p its true that you cant see any mics on the amps, but the amp sound here is deffently a close miced sound. they couldve had the amp speakers in another room completely to help stop bleed in the live room. if not i have no clue but deffiently a close mic sound, either sm57 or ribbon mic

That's what I figured and what I would do in a situation like such. Someone said the room mic was used but there isn't enough control over overall sound to rely solely on the room mic to give the clarity and definition needed to be the only thing for guitars. Not saying Sam pura didn't use it, which he most certainly would, but he would also have to take more isolated signals (like a direct out on the back of the heads as you were saying) to use for a live recording in such a small room

Or it could be because the sound you hear in the video is taken from the mixer and not from a camera or any microphone somewhere in the room? That could be why they have the headphones, to be able to play loud but still hear the rest of the band through the headphones because they are all connected into the mixer.

Yes, I am. I've done it so many times, and you actually do get very good sound from it. It's also how they mic up orchestras and choirs sometimes, to get the whole of the sound. You just need an omnidirectional condenser, and that will pick up the amps. The cymbals on the drums need their own mics to be heard above the general sound, the same with the vocalists.
