Hi - Thanks for this video. I have an Audi TT (V6 - Registered in 2004) I am having a problem in getting a camber adjustment for my rear tyre and have been advised to buy a set of upper and lower control arms. I am going to buy a set Lemforder arms which have some good reviews. I wanted to double check that both the upper and lower arms are the same size before ordering. Could you advise? Thanks

Everytime I see photos or shots of the under body of cars in the UK, I'm shocked at the rust, corrosion & crud 😶. Like the guy from SoCal, my 19 yo high mileage TT is clean as a whistle underneath. Regarding the topic of this video, after putting coilovers on my TT the rear wheel camber was out big time, scrubbing my rear tyres. I bought a very strong and engineered set of adjustable control arms which sorted out that issue. They are stronger than OEM and are a pretty blue colour to boot 🤔

There were some issues with an early production batch of rose joints which to address Audi revised/improved the rose joint - providing a repair kit with the revised rose joints and four arms of the same length - and they continued in production. Replacing the rose joints with a bonded rubber bush circa 2003 wasn't to address failing rose joints specifically. Having no free articulation the bonded rubber bushes could introduce torsional stressess on already fatigued/corroded arms - especially if the cars lowered without adjusting/neutralising the tension on the bush or correcting the camber (not using adjustable arms).

Mate, great video, cheers to that! Just one thing: you keep talking about how the rear wheels should sit vertical after adjusting the control arms. That's not how suspension geometry works! You're right about the point that you want as much rubber on the ground as possible for good grip - but that is: under load! When you're going through a corner, the suspension travels and your wheels will deform. There's a good reason why all (!) modern performance cars have some degree of negative camber. On the TT mk1 facelift model (from 2002), the rear camber is around 2.5° stock. It would be very unwise to reduce that to 0, it would greatly worsen corner handling and rear stability.
@TheParrottBros
@TheParrottBros 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment, I should’ve added the fact that you need to get your car set up by a hunters or four wheel alignment centre after fitting the arms, On my vehicle just by lowering it on springs I have introduced nearly 3° of negative camber which means it’s nearly 5° away from where it should be if you’re saying it’s 2.5° positive stock. I would always rely on the hunters set up to put it back to how it should be, vertigo and a load is just a good starting point as it’s easy to see it they are tipped in at the top and you may need arms.

Would this cause the rear of the car to jump up and down and vibrate badly if bad out of alignment like that. Just put all new perelli tires all way around and have only driven at best 500 miles btw I also changed my wheels too. My old wheels was much wider these are .75 the old was .95 width. And have 30mm spacers on rear and 25mm spacers on front and driver side rear tire is sitting inward at the top and outward at bottom. It wasn't doing that nor did it look like that when old wheels and tires was on it.

Crap Master Usually if you get in tire way, that is down to if you’ve lowered your vehicle more than anything. But if you are getting poor handling you may well have a seized or more than one seized bush. It would be worth getting them checked out as they can make the arm snap

Hey Dom, brilliant video. How did you go about removing the bushes from both the arms and the hubs? Cheers!
@TheParrottBros
@TheParrottBros 2 жыл бұрын
I have a rear subframe video where I refurbish the arms etc, if you take a look you’ll see it in the TT playlist. The rose joints I would leave in if you have them just grease them and make sure they are free for movement

Installing rear control arms was pretty tough. hard to get the arms to come level with the bolt holes. In the end I used ratchet straps to pull the wheel hub closer in to fit the bolt through the hole.

Hey do you need shortened shocks for the lowering springs or is the car okay going on shortened springs with standard shocks?
@TheParrottBros
@TheParrottBros 4 жыл бұрын
It all depends on the amount the springs will lower. If it’s a subtle drop like the eibach -25mm ones yourll be fine. If it’s -40 or more you might bottom the shocks out and massively reduce the life span

to lower it properly and get all correct adjustment ,do i need all four adjustable arms? or can i get away with replacing just the lower ones ?

Two will allow you to correct the geo, 4 just gives you more adjustment options, for track and race 4 would be ideal, for road 2 is plenty ( and what i run)

What suspension set up do you have? Just im looking for a kit for my 3.2 but no manufacter seems to do a kit specific to the 3.2. Thanks
@TheParrottBros
@TheParrottBros 3 жыл бұрын
Currently the b12 kit from eibach, most company’s will do a 3.2 option, if you want separate shock and springs there is eibach and h&r and some cheaper ones
@Leroyindahou5e
@Leroyindahou5e 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheParrottBros yeah I wanted eibach, but they don’t seem to do them for the 3.2, H&R are not specific to the 3.2 and are just the same as the 1.8t which worries me slightly! Might end up with kw v1’s
@TheParrottBros

@@Leroyindahou5e I’d you want Coilovers I would lean towards the gaz ones as fully serviceable in the uk ( if your UK based) and usually cheaper too. They do varying spring rates and can make custom ones too

Is it worth changing the arms if the car isn’t lowered? The adjustable do look a lot stronger..

Not really, the only time the arms would be no good is when the bush/rose joint is seized. When it’s ok there is no risk of failure
