The Patient Story

Күн бұрын

For months, Jason explained away stomach issues, thinking it was IBS like loose stools, constipation and seeing spots of blood on toilet paper, until the bleeding got worse. He finally went to the doctor and tests and biopsies later revealed a stage 4 colorectal cancer cancer diagnosis with metastasis to the liver.

How long have you been cancer free/in remission? That is amazing news, congratulations!! ❤ I have throat cancer and the PET scan revealed something in my colon with enlarged lymph nodes. Metastasis from my throat cancer was ruled out in another scan specifically for it. I have had symptoms of IBS, with the exemption of blood in my stool. 2 years ago I had a colonoscopy and they didn’t find anything. Now that the PET scan has showed something, my doctor now wants to run more tests… I do have a family history of Crohn’s and this sort of thing can show up and mimic colon cancer so I am not too freaked out yet. However they also found 10+ lesions in my liver (which appeared suddenly which is alarming) that they are investigating but so far are saying these are benign… I am 32. So sorry you went through that and so happy I saw your comment. It gives me hope if I do end up being diagnosed!

@iSheree I have been cancer free since August of 2023 so not long. I'm glad your Dr is staying up on this and looking further into it. I will pray for you. It's been a very long and hard road but with good Dr.'s and the strength of my family and friends I made it. I was only 86 lbs at one point and the surgeon told my family he wouldn't operate anymore and to take me home to see my kids. Basically go home and see how long I last. I came home forced myself to gain weight back and he ended up doing further surgery. I also went to UC for a possible living donor for my liver but ended up going to Cleveland clinic for a resection. My point is no matter how dark it gets keep pushing and let your people fight for you when you can't. Your life is worth going to the ends of the earth to save. If you have any questions along the way please feel free to reach out. I will help as much as I can.

@@brandyfoster596 thank you so much for your kind words and wisdom! I have been fighting my throat cancer since April 2023 and it was in August 2023 that they told me that all those things in the PET scan weren’t from that cancer! They haven’t been able to figure out what is going on since. I am a medical mystery right now. I have been so sick for a few years now but it could well be an autoimmune disease mimicking cancer. I hope so anyway because I was born disabled, made more disabled due to hospital negligence at 3 months old, developed debilitating chronic illnesses along the way and broke my neck at 17 which triggered multiple autoimmune diseases. Having cancer is just an inconvenience at this point but just when I thought it can’t get any worse in my life, I could have more than one cancer right now. I have fought hard my whole life and will continue to fight. ❤️ Congratulations on beating stage 4 cancer that is quite the achievement!!

@@brandyfoster596 thank you and you are so brave and strong too! My cancer does not respond well to chemo (I have been having surgeries and a form of radiation therapy and a drug that I have to take for the rest of my life) so I can’t imagine having chemo but I could be soon. 😢 Also the thought of having a liver resection while so ill, is scary. I hope I can be as strong as you were and get through it if this is my fate too. Thank you for sharing your story I now have more hope and will fight harder. ❤️

Want to go to heaven? Trust Jesus Christs Life, death, burial, and Resurrection alone. His death on the cross for your sins. He shed his precious blood to atone for your sin! You can't be saved unless you acknowledge that you're a lost sinner.. and that you deserve hell, and that Jesus Christ died for your sins.. he was your substitute. His blood is your payment. If you don't plead guilty, you will have to pay your sins yourself (eternity in Hell) All you have to do is trust in him..( asking him to forgive you and save you) and you can spend eternity in heaven with God. It's personal. You can have His righteousness transferred to your account so you don't have to be judged for your own sins?( instead you get judge based on his righteousness.) Don't trust mary, don't trust your baptism, don't trust your church membership, don't trust your good works/goodness. Salvation is in Jesus Christ alone nothing more. Eternal life is a free gift and Jesus paid it All. Christians are good because we love him, not to earn our way to heaven. There is so much fake christianity, many people who have tried to work their way to heaven as a fake Christian will get cast down to hell because they're trusting in their own good works and not Jesus Christ alone.

Stage 3 CRC I rectum diagnosed in 2022. Had radiation, 8 rounds chemo, and a large surgery. I thought I had mild colitis until my energy levels dropped and my stools were thinner, which are classic signs. I knew something was wrong. I was brushed off by several doctors. I had to go to the ER one evening after a huge bloody diarrhea. The emergency Doc did a digital exam and thought the tumer in my rectum he felt was impacted stool. Gave me laxative, said the GI doc was too busy to see me anyways and sent me off. I demanded a colonoscopy from my family doctor . After that scope they immediately told me there was a tumor. Diagnosed 3 days later…. I’m glad to say after going to hell and back I’m 1year cancer free. I hope all the other commenters here remain in remission and Godspeed.

I pestered my doctor as soon as I saw blood - and was fobbed off as ‘too young/women of 40 just don’t get bowel cancer’ but I ‘knew’ - I didn’t have weight loss or extreme tiredness etc. All I had was blood and constipation followed by diarrhoea. After years of of complaining he finally referred me for a sigmoidoscopy & was told immediately I had a 7cm tumour in my rectum. I had that removed 10 years ago today - after radiotherapy & chemotherapy pre-op followed by adjuvant chemo & stoma reversal 18 months later. I’m so glad I nagged or I wouldn’t be here today

Cancer consumes glucose to grow. Cancer cells have 10 times the glucose receptors as healthy cells. Use intermittent fasting and Keto diet and you starve cancer. I'm 8yrs out from rectal C. Last Oct I began seeing blood in my pee bag and became anemic. The PHX VA imaged a "mass" in the left kidney. They refused to biopsy and told me all they would do is wait til it was larger, then resect the entire kidney... Butchers.... A friend who's been fighting prostate cancer sent me a bottle of Fenbendazole and after a week of one per day, the bleeding stopped. You can kick cancer in the sack, but your doctor may be less than helpful. Surgery left me with a crap-bag, no sex function, and a large hernia at the ostomy site. Not worth it. I'd rather be taking the dirt nap than live this way. Good luck ..

I’m a breast cancer survivor, not CRC. For two decades now I’ve had sometimes a fair amount of blood in my stool. I get colonoscopies every six years, at MSKCC, where I was treated for my breast cancer. So far, no cancer, only internal hemorrhoids and a benign polyp occasionally. Thank you for your advice. And I wish you many, many years of life, until you’re very old. Btw, I LOVE cats and people who love cats! Great to glimpse your furbabies! 💙

Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Your strength and courage gives us hope. I was diagnosed with stage IV colorectal cancer April 2023. Since then i have completed 28 rounds of radiation and oral Chemo. Followed by 10 Folfox chemo infusions. My cancer ernt to my lungs. Had a microwave ablation, that did the job but wasn't pretty. Having a few test done for my surgeon now. He believes he can remove my lower rectal cancer with a temporary ileostomy.

I admire your tenacity and keeping your mind focused on the future. I'm a former (now retired) home care nurse who followed a lot of colon cancer patients in the community- doing chemo hookups, central line care, and ostomy teaching. Then at age 42 I myself was diagnosed with stage 1 rectal cancer. That was in 1997. Went through chemo, radiation and a minor surgery because the tumor essentially disappeared after treatment, so no colostomy. I have been cancer free ever since. I share your sentiments about the pain caused by radiation. Anyway, I just want to encourage you as you await surgery. I hope you see an ostomy nurse beforehand because placement of a colostomy is really an art. You are thin, so you don't have much in the way of skin folds to interfere with bending and such. People who are heavy with a lot of skin folds often run into issues with the appliance staying in place. Because of where your cancer is, you will have formed stools that will be easy to manage. I suggest taking digestive enzymes with your food. They really help with keeping stools nice and solid. I have even known patients who have had colostomies for years and they don't even wear an appliance anymore because they are that regular. They just wear a taped gauze pad over their ostomy. I wish you the best.

I find that amazing that some don’t have to wear an appliance. I have an ileostomy and I’m fully TPN dependent. Mines has a mind of its own. 😬
@marytee3963
@marytee3963 6 ай бұрын
@@OneLove101. A colostomy placed after a colon resection in the region of the sigmoid colon usually produces formed stool. So, a bowel movement occurs once, maybe twice a day. If a person can consistently produce solid stool, and also have the sensation that occurs before a bowel movement, then a covering with gauze can be adequate. This only happens after a person has had their colostomy for awhile. An ileostomy is usually on the right side of the abdomen with very little transit time from the small intestine, so yes, will always produce liquid/semi liquid stool.

I am really pleased that you are getting great, if difficult, treatment and I hope you continue along the path to full recovery. Sadly a good friend of mine was in exactly the position you were in but he continued to believe it was his IBS. It wasn't and by the time they opened him up to sort him it was too late. They sewed him up. sent him home and he died 8 weeks later. He was 52. As a result I made a decision to retire from work as early as I can afford to and to fill my life with things I enjoy and want to do. I feel I owe it to those who had their chance to do so, taken away. Good luck and I wish you all the best!

Thanks so much for sharing your story. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year. Fortunately it was caught early and it was localized only to the prostate. I think it’s important that we share our journeys, no matter what kind of cancer we are experiencing, so that we can encourage others to go get checked and to get checked early. We also understand that when talking with our doctors that it is not the time for being embarrassed. Don’t be shy when it comes to talking about what you’re experiencing. Cancer is rapidly becoming a treatable disease instead of a death sentence, so don’t wait! Keep up the good fight sir. I wish you well! 🎗️

The details of your story are super helpful. “We all have buttholes”. Love that. I had tons of bleeding before being diagnosed with celiacs. I had another form of cancer a few yrs ago, Ive had pet scans regularly since then, but now I have had GI issues that are getting worse. When you said you couldn’t remember the last time you had a normal poo… man, that is exactly what i’ve been saying. Cant get into the pcp to get a referral for gastro for a couple months, but i have a pre scheduled petscan in a month. Hopefully there will not be any cancer and my oncologist can do the referral for the gastro. There can be so many reasons for the bleeding and gas and pain. Need to bite the bullet and push for all the testing. Thanks again for sharing your journey. I wish you all the best!!!

Hey thank you for your factual openness in sharing your story. I love how you take control and totally get the middle finger theme. Your experiences and the way you found treatments is inspirational especially as most doctors in the uk start off by going 'are you losing weight?' 'Have you lost your appetite?' As an initial basis of diagnosing the seriousness of disease, obviously they then do blood tests etc but if you are in any way ignorant of facts like what you are so kindly and caringly sharing, people could then go off with a false sense of security. It's so easy to feel like you're making things up in your head or you're being a hypochondriac. I wish you all the best and hope you come back and keep us updated on things you've learned and shared. I'm sure you've saved many lives through this video. 🤗 Thank you and your family too
