Elvis gave us a heart pounding version. Elvis tended to speed up the songs he was known for when in concert and he certainly went full throttle on this one! My dad was a fan of Chuck Berry, but he was also a fan of Elvis. I don't know who he'd choose when it comes to this song, but for me there is no competition. Elvis ROCKS and he ROCKS HARD! I don't take anything away from Chuck, but Elvis' version is more my **speed** ( not to mention, Elvis can actually sing beautifully when he wants to, Chuck-not so much ).

Elvis P wins those VOCALS! POWER!!! Guitarmanship Chuck was a tie between him and Elvis' guitarist. Elvis wins this one but I LOVE CHUCK BERRY too! Both versions are unique and special.

- - - Apples & Oranges Elvis rocks harder & faster than Chuck Chucks video appears live but it's not. Its him lip-synching to a studio recording. Elvis's version is indeed live from 1969, so we cannot compare live to live between them Elvis wins on vocals for sure, as Chuck's voice is not really a singing voice, and if you ever heard him do a ballad, you'd see what I mean. Guitar-wise, Elvis' guitarist, James Burton can do circles around Chuck. Beyond just this song, looking at both of their lifetime careers, Elvis easily outclasses Chuck's career, just compare their stats. Elvis had more gold, platinum, multi platinum, more chart activity, more top 40, top 10, #1 songs, and Albums. Elvis even had more hits on the R&B chart than Chuck, so the minority audience bought Elvis' records. Finally, many folks see chuck doing Johnny B Good and say that started rock & roll. We must remind them, Chuck's song is from 1958. His first one that charted was 1955. Elvis & Bill Hailey both recorded rock & roll (1954) before chuck did.
