Under no circumstances should any Eurovision fan dismiss this in May. I would not be surprised if it finishes ahead of bigger fan favourites. Harmless fun, and there are already signs of how the staging could be elevated at the contest.

Luxembourg has absolutely brought my winner and I don’t think they’re going to be beaten in my eyes as this song has everything the vocals, the choreography, the melody and the little nod to France Gall, I pray that this exact staging goes to Basel and I really hope Laura Thorn makes the final as I won’t be in the UK to vote this year because I’m visiting the Phillies!!! 🇱🇺🇱🇺🇱🇺

This has qualification written all over it: the clever reference to the 1965 winner; it is conventional, harmless, dated, easy to listen to and it has French flair; the staging is cute and the singer is charming and sings well. Luxembourg is Eurovision elite, and the novelty of them coming back has not worn off yet. Good luck to Laura!

Glad to see you back ! I LOVE this song, it's been stuck in my head for a month now, and the lyrics are actually really great, a lot is referring to France Gall and a reaction of the controversy that her winning song was all about afterwards. The doll is now loose and not listening to orders anymore etc... I think they really aimed it to be a modern version of typical older ESC songs and they succeeded in my opinion, the production is awesome. The studio version sounds way better than her live performance, so I'm a bit worried about that, but she has time to work on her vocalswhile moving. If her vocals are a bit stronger and staging as well, I can see this getting a love of votes from the typical ESC audience. 8/10, and there is already a song scoring higher for me, so maybe we get a high level contest after all !

Hello again! Now you say it I know what you mean about 2010- the staging does make me think a bit of the Spanish entry from 2010!

To my mind the "na na na na na" has a double objective: 1-Easy sounds for non-french speakers 2- french speaking kids are used to singing that "na na na na nère" (the nere has been removed as less melodious) in order to mock others. Here the doll is mocking the guy who wants to manipulate.

If you haven't already made your favourite album of 2024 list, you should listen to Kalandra and their A Fraime Of Mind. It is really beautiful and not nieche. If you have, you should still have a listen to it☺

Is this kind of song not called a "homage"? Here to France Gall and her "Poupée de cire, poupée de son" winning ESC 1965 song, which itself is been said to be inspired by van Beethovens 1st piano sonata, and that had been dedicated by van Beethoven to Joseph Haydn...(Hm, considering Austrias entry is it interesting to see how many ESC 2025 song will have a classic music backstory). Well, however since it is completly French I have my doubt it will be as well receive as the 2024 entry. PS: 1:22 What do you mean with "working in finance industy"? Are you not a professional orchester musician anymore?

I feel it’s affectionate and totally un cynical. Unlike last year. And for that. I love it. It’s cheesy as Camembert but hey. I’m here for it.

Well I am interested of your opinion on Irelands song! 🤭 Because this is also more dated like 2000s
@stevieboy6666 күн бұрын
Someone please correct me if I’m wrong and add more context if I’m right, but the song is like a more liberal take of Poupee de Cire Poupee de Son, a song with questionable lyrics about a girl being controlled and was oddly ironic as Gall never wanted to sing the song. In this entry, the doll takes back control, not that you’d know from the staging 😬. Again someone please correct me but this was the rough idea I got from Reddit

I am not really into it, I thought it was very camp and also very childish, not sure on the qualification, but good luck to her. Nice to see you again Rachel!
@Rik776 күн бұрын
I quite like it, but the verses are a bit repetitive and the cycle of 5ths seem to go on forever at times. I kind of need the song to do a bit more, than go round and round in circles. Bit its nice.
@Doivid2976 күн бұрын
"Toy with that a little bit"... Not if Laura's got anything to say about it! I'm with you, it's catchy but soooo cheesy and in some ways dated. Basically a reinterpretation of Lux 1965 but for the modern age; the doll is independent and she decides what she wants, not the owner. Despite this great message I cannot say I especially like it, unfortunately. (5/10)

So happy that you are back with your Eurovision videos, I always wait for them, your take on songs is always interesting and inforrmative... as for this song, let me tell you that understanding the lyrics will not elevate your general opinion on it, they are in line with the overall vibe of the song, campy and a bit dated, as you said!

I found the vocal’s unbearable… really painful to hear. Overall, very poor entries at the National competition and the results felt like that this was the best option amongst very bad songs

it's not my cup of tea, the whole package seems a bit on the juvenile side and the message of the song is pretty much a temu dupe of netta's toy

I am sure this seemed like a cute idea on paper, and it is an earworn. However, it lacks any reference to the now, and simply wallows in the past. -Still, it's harmless.
