One of my favourite episodes. Such an intriguing sci fi mystery and wonderful storyline. It would definitely make my Top Ten.

i loved how they showed the runabout's aft compartment for the first and only time - ever - including DS9 for some odd reason.

I think the captain was given written to go time-crazy so we could get the cool shot where Picard sees the Enterprise explode in the runabout window and then unexplode as if Riker justed activated the Omega-13. It's an iconic image of TNG. It also seems to be a running theme with Picard since Time Squared.

I wish they did an episode where you saw everything from the point of view of datas cat spot

Yeah the beginning did feel Seinfeldish. "What's the deal with these intergalactic conferences?" I think though, it had a purpose. It creates a light feel, which makes the time freeze moment more creepy. Flipping the atmosphere. Also creates the feeling that these characters have been away for a while and they have stories. If you could dip your paintbrush into Time, this episode is what you get.

Some light hearted banter about a possible sexual predator who seems like a 24th century version of a Casting Couch agent.

On a side note, after that table scene when Troy and Picard were doing voices and impressions, I thought the joke will be Data attempting to the impression of someone, but he would be perfect and in effect would just speak exactly like that someone (as we know he can) - which would end up being creepy and not funny (Data confused - "I don't understand. Didn't I emulate the voice of XXX perfectly?")

I'd put Cause and Effect behind this one, if just barely. Quite enjoyable with plenty of high notes. With a few additional plot points and a longer focus on the mystery I would not have minded if this was a two parter. :-D
