No queen of the Middle Ages was as powerful, as famous and at the same time as infamous as Eleanor of Aquitaine (1124-1204). She was first Queen of France, then Queen of England, prisoner of her own husband and ally of her sons in the battle against her father, not least regent of a huge empire from the Scottish border to the Pyrenees; she promoted the rise of Gothic art and to this day she is regarded as the "Queen of the Troubadours". For me, she was the rock star among the queens of the Middle Ages 👑

This channel is marvelous. I have learned so much about English history from the videos here. I am 67 years of age and I have spent most of my life ignorant of these topics. I was especially interested in the history of the Norman conquests because of my family name. Thank you.

Anyone interested should read “Katherine” by Anya Seton, a really good and dramatic read. The books paints a really wonderful portrait of 14th century England. The Beauforts are decedents of her and John of Gaunt

12:56 The sinking of the White Ship changed everything! What do you think would have happened if William Adelin had survived? Could it have prevented the chaos of the Anarchy? Or was the struggle for power inevitable in such a volatile period?

If Margaret Beaufort was such a pillar of virtue, why did STARZ cast her as such a scheming old haridan as seen in their series, THE WHITE QUEEN, THE WHIT PRINCESS, and THE SPANISH PRINCESS ? I understand that all three of these women were vilified in their own times due to the misogynistic attitude of the Church and society, why did Hollyweird follow in that mode?
@LA-cj5jq10 күн бұрын
Firstly, the tv series and movies are based on the superb historical FICTION novels by Phillipa Gregory. They are also from the perspective of Margaret's 'rivals'. She was bold and tenacious and not afraid to play the political games. She did do a lot of scheming. The Red Queen also by Phillipa Gregory is still only a book and paints the Yorks and Woodvilles in less flattering light.
