The whole "big robots punching each other" theme gave this movie some kind of a negative first impression in the eyes of many people who ended up not watching it, many expected a Transformer-y type of movie with explosions and fx being the protagonists, when in reality it's a very touching father-son story with quite interesting values and character growth. Extremely underrated movie

Real Steel is literally a reboot of "Over the Top" but using a plot from the original Twilight Zone series from an episode by the same name called "Real Steel" and it was about the future where all boxing is done by robots and not humans anymore. Great movie and it captures the same emotions from Over the Top.

This is one of my all-time favorite movies. Soooo underrated and I am very surprised there never was a sequel to it, but I love it as a standalone film too. I actually watched this by accident in 2011. I remember we got tickets for Twilight's "Breaking Dawn" part 1 for Black Friday, but something happened at the theater with that film that night and were not able to show it. They gave us tickets for a later date, but also gave us free tickets to this unknown film "Real Steel" movie for that night as a courtesy. We came out amazed and so glad we got so see it!

2 things I absolutely loved about this movie. 1). His aunt (new mother) fully got out in support of Atom and Max. 2). Max got to see Charlie box. I dont think there was a video of his fight against Nico Tandy that he could see. So in the final round against Zeus, Charlie got to see him in his craft.

I classify this as a movie that shouldn't work.. but very much does. In so many ways it's cheesier than most boxing movies and they usually have a pretty high cheese factor. Hugh's character is really unforgivably terrible in the beginning of the movie but still it manages to pull us back in and give us a great redemption arc.
