I don't watch re-watches but I always listen to the intros of movie reactions because I assure you, any reactor worth their salt in my experience will tell you if they have seen it before. Given the traffic graph on the play bar on videos though I can see that most viewers skip straight to the reaction content over listening to the intro though so I expect claims of having already seen it go a miss sometimes, just to clarify, not accusing you of skipping into videos just pointing out from the graph above the play bar it does seem to happen often.

Best film of all time, in my opinion. It has it all. Heart-pounding drama & suspense, master level acting, directing, writing, cinematography and musical score, next-level realism in astrophysics, and after all that, it’s fundamentally a story about a father’s love for his children. Kip Thorne, a theoretical physicist, went through all of the math to make sure they got it as accurate as possible. He wasn't just a consultant, either, and had a couple of requirements if they wanted him to become involved with the film: 1. That nothing in the film violate the laws of physics or our knowledge of the universe. 2. That anything speculative in the movie arises from real science. It's as accurate as possible to the best of our knowledge at the time.

That soundtrack is legendary. Zimmer used church organs to give that feeling of religious awe. It's no coincidence that the "first handshake" scene looks like Michelangelo's Creation of Adam. I think it represents that mankind is its own god/savior, the way the future fifth-dimensional humans put the wormhole right within their reach and made the tesseract for Cooper to communicate with the past. And.. something about Mann representing human flaws/sin, and his name literally being Mann. This movie is definitely a lot to chew on.

My family and I went to see it in 70 mm at Navy Pier in Chicago. Unfortunately, we ran insanely late and ended finally sitting down in the theater right as they're taking off and he's saying goodbye to Murph. That really sucked, going into this mindblowing experience for the first time in the best possible setting to see it, but not seeing almost the first quarter of it, not knowing the setup or emotional stakes that were set. All we knew was that Murph really didn't want her dad to go, but they had to because humanity's survival depended on it. We didn't know why, or even see the setup of the ghost in her room. In a way though, it made seeing the rest of it that much more of a fantastical experience where we had no clue what to expect next. I hope it comes back to a 70mm theater near me some day so I can rewatch it in its full glory again. Seen it again at least 4 or 5 times now since then at home, but the visual and audio experience of scenes like the wormhole travel and the "mountains" doesn't even come close to how jaw-dropping and immersive it was in IMAX, and we have a pretty solid TV and speaker setup at home.
@Big_Tex
@Big_Tex 2 жыл бұрын
There were quite a few hints along the way. Young Murph’s first line is “Dad! I thought you were the ghost!” The before leaving Coop tells Murph a parent is the ghost of his child’s future. Then after leaving the water planet, when Brand is telling Coop that they cannot go backward in time, she says something like “The only thing that can travel across a dimension like time is gravity.” But you get too sucked into the pace of the movie to process those hints.

I honestly think Coop watching the messages from his family after their 28 years stay on Bay watch. This is quite possibly one of the saddest things I've ever watched in a film. Specifically learning that his newborn Jesse died at the same time he tells us Grandpa died. And if course, the line that sets me off crying like a firehose. " I never made one of these when you were still responding because I was mad at you for leaving.............but TODAYS MY BIRTHDAY"....boom that line CRUSHES me every time. That's up there with John coffee getting electrocuted in Green Mile. Edit: I had to throw in this unpopular opinion. Matt Damon was a douche and a coward for claiming his planet was habitable so somebody would come save him. I will not argue that point. But hes an idiot for going about it the way he did. It would have been much safer, though less comfortable for everybody. If he just fessed up right away and said "I was afraid. I didn't want to die alone on this planet and I lied." What are they gonna do? Execute him? The guy has proven his bravery by going in the 1st place, And we have heard throughout the whole movie that he is probably the most brilliant person that they sent into space. They legitimately need him. He would be an insane help in getting to the next planet. And if luck is on his side and that planet is habitable and they can save everybody. I bet anything they would let his cowardice slide and never even mention it again because he would still have a gigantic hand in saving the world. Instead he wrecked his robot and killed a dude....... What an asshole

Dr. Mann was definitely not thinking straight. He had lost his reason, first from the terror and despair of dying alone and then from the shame of being busted for fabricating his report on the planet. He was essentially driven mad. He clearly stated that he didn't expect Cooper and Brand to take him with them after discovering his lie. There was no way that they would ever trust him again. Again, not thinking straight, he decided to try to complete the mission all alone.

Good point! It's not like they would've just left him there for lying about it. They likely would've been understanding about it, albeit disappointed and upset at best. But if any one of them were in his situation, they likely would've done the same in getting someone to come rescue them

@nicoladc89

the papers are about the engine they used to simulate the black hole not about physics researches. Double Negative decided to develope a specific engine to simulate a real black hole (the Double Negative Gravitational Renderer), Kip Thorne and Walter Burke Institute for Theoretical Physics were their consultant, helping them with well known physics. " There are no new astrophysical insights in this accretion-disk section of the paper, but disk novices may find it pedagogically interesting, and movie buffs may find its discussions of Interstellar interesting." Nobody never did something like that before for a simple reason, nobody, neither the richest laboratory, has millions of dollars to spend for an image with an irrelevant scientific purpose. Anyway this is an intersting approach to unify very expensive blockbusters, science and popular science. Hollywood could do great things in spreading a scientific culture (and publishing what you did, instead of keep it secret, is a great idea in this sense), Interstellar and Double Negative did it, a lot of others didn't.

What’s also interesting is that love is probably what made him find her; because he had to pass back through gargantua and locate her physically on the other side. Everyone sacrificed so much, with the time doing the research and staying behind, the lives lost in the worlds (“Hence the courage”), and he lost his life. It was just so much. It’s a beautiful and hard movie.

I love this movie. I remember I was a little late when the movie first came out when I was in High School. A teacher pretty much begged me to watch. Now that the rerelease is coming out in December. I can't wait to see it in Theaters for the 10 year anniversary.

The blown tire isn't an issue because that truck has two tires on each side in the back. Only one of them was blown. They have that kind of setup to handle heavy loads, but they weren't carrying anything really heavy.

When Nolan commissioned the soundtrack to Hans Zimmer he said him only one thing about the film "it is a film about a father who is forced to stay away from his children for a long time for work reasons". Nolan brothers (Christopher - the director - and Jonathan - the screenwriter) had just lost their father before the production and Christopher watching his children grow up so fast thought how much faster children change in comparison to an adult: today your child is born and tomorrow he sit next to you in a pub drinking a beer and watching the match with you like he is your peer. Moreover Christopher likes to play with time in his movie, because Cinema is the only thing that can do this. This is basically the main concept of the movie. But behind this there is a giant, big, accurate world building made with the consulting of Kip Thorne (Nobel prize for Physics, one of the men who discovered the gravitational waves and man who theorized the existence of traversable wormholes, that are called Morris-Thorne Wormhole) and a lot of other exo-scientists. This movie is like a bignami of what we know and what we don't in physics, is a homage to the humanity in all its facets (genius, idiocy, rationality, sentimentality, science, antiscience, madness etc...), it's a homage to what humanity can do if only we want to do and - last but not least - it's a advice to protect our planet before it's late because we can't travel like they do. It's intersting how this movie tell us "things will go bad soon if we don't do something to change, something like using the science" and in Tenet Nolan show us what happen when all the things already went bad.

Love you two reacted to one of the greatest films of our time. Not "good" - GREAT. In my personal top 100 and always, ALWAYS, hits hard. No matter how many times I've seen it, this one brings the feels - and it's pretty good in the science as films go. Thanks for your genuine, REAL reactions. To this and all your films. Great choice on this one.

I'm not surprised when at the end the girl says it's her favorite movie of all time, because it's mine too, Mary Cherry ho also did a reaction to Interstellar said this was her favorite movie too. Now let's think a little, this movie was created to be experienced on IMAX theaters or at least on a dark room with a good screen and good audio... most of the people reacting to the movie have cameras on their faces, bright lights, poor sound and probably ok image quality... now imagine if they saw it properly, how much harder the movie would hit them...

@@shaunk6925 I agree. Insomnia is a great movie too. However it's more of a remake than his original idea. That's why it gets so overlooked compared to his other works that include his signature mindfuck/nolanesque storytelling.

Just a small thing I believe is important to understand is that once they dock with the Endurance after Dr Mann’s explosion, they were uncontrollably falling towards the black hole and had no way to escape its pull. Which is why the robot makes the comment “hope your next trick is a good one” The slingshot move that Cooper makes is the only option. He uses the black holes gravity to his advantage to spit Dr Brand out on the other side. Cooper conjured this plan on the fly while simultaneously deciding to let himself fall into it. Basically committing what he thought was certain suicide while also saving Dr Brand to carry on the species. To all of our surprise, he wasn’t killed. And as I write this I actually now wonder, what if they both went into the black hole? lol

YEAP they did! loved it!

You got it almost right about the "love" thing. You see...it was not love that took him to the "ghost bookshelter"...it was the humanity from the future. The thing is that the humanity from the future can build a "time dimension" like that (with gravity)....but they can't comunicate propperly because they have no "real relationship" with the past people (would you believe a message from unknown author saying that he is speaking from the future? No, wouldn't you?). So the "love" thing is the conection that the Dad has with his daughter. She was the only one who could understand him and believe that this was him talking to her (and because of that conection he knew the best moments to send the messages to her). That's why he says that he was the "bridge" for the future mankind to send the quantum data correctly to the past (using gravity as the main "tool" and love as the "compass").

So I´ve watched a ton of reactions and the movie itself many times but since I am apparently not that smart I never quite understood Dr. Branns poem "do not go gentle into that good night". He is obviously referring to a black hole! "that good night" and "the dying of the light". Its the freaking black hole and I never figured it out until now :D. But thanks to you noticing that Romely was talking about Gargantua as a gentle singularity I finally connected the dots.
