Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for the overwhelming support on this video!! Interstellar had a profound impact on me - it not only changed the way I look at films, but the way I look at life (I know that sounds dramatic, but it’s true 😅). But a lot of you have been asking: “what’s next?” I think I want to go on a bit of a Christopher Nolan binge so I’ve decided my next reaction will be BATMAN BEGINS!!! The video will be live on Wednesday the 24th! Hope to see you all then!

Fantastic news! Nolan's entire filmography is brilliant from start to finish. Not just his Batman trilogy, but even his lesser-known works like The Prestige, or his earlier indie-films like Memento. Excited to see you experience more of his unique brand of storytelling! :)

I don't know what movies you've seen before, but after you watch the Nolan movies (always amazing), I would recommend How to Train your Dragon, if you haven't seen it already. Particularly since you focused on the music so much - HTTYD's soundtrack (along with absolutely everything else) is incredible through all three films of the trilogy. But if you have seen them, then I guess you already know that :)

Nobody really thinks about the perspective of Romilly during the movie, which if you ask me is one of the saddest: He has been living his whole life learning, probably even during the period where people started to change the content of books, as that teacher was saying in the start of the movie. Probably ousted by the rest of the community and family he had left, due to not wanting to be a farmer and not contributing to this "new world" they live in. He became an astronaut, survived 23 years on his own in the dead mute space on the other side of the universe not knowing if his colleagues one of which is the pilot will ever get back. Then he got into the trap Dr. Mann set, and died without seeing they actually succeeded their mission, but knowing Mann changed the data and this planet being uninhabitable.

"How does a song sound so hopeful and so heartbreaking at the same time?" There's actually a wonderful answer to this exact question: when composing this main theme, composer Hans Zimmer started with a simple, hopeful melody that captured the essence of a loving father-daughter relationship. But then he built the rest of the chords/instrumentation around that melody to convey a sense of cosmic vastness, loneliness, and isolation, like a probe or spaceship floating among the infinite blackness. And so the finished song conveys both Cooper's deep love for his daughter, but also the vast distance between them. Wonderful reactions! :)

Nolan *is* the greatest director of our time and has the potential to be the greatest of all time, certainly in the coming years. What's amazing about this movie is that it's not only beautifully directed and such an impactful story but also very scientifically accurate, where it can be. Nolan was very adamant that the science had to be right. Theoretical physicist Kip Thorne was the science consultant for the movie and even wrote a book about it called "The Science of Interstellar". I suggest looking into behind the scenes stuff especially about the black hole, believe it or not it was not just an artistic depiction of a black hole, the entire render is a simulation based on real physics. This movie predicted what black holes would look like, there's even peer reviewed scientific papers about it, it wasn't until a few years later that there was an actual image taken of a black hole and it was extremely accurate. I don't know about any other movie that has published scientific papers in real science journals about it. This is one of those few movies where the behind the scenes stuff is worth looking in to.

At 17:37, yes thats a clock ticking I guess at roughly 1.25 seconds, and that has a huge significance. Each tick(1.25s) on the miller's planet is equal to a day passed on earth! Talk about attention to detail, Chris Nolan is one of the greatest directors for a reason!! Waves and tides are caused by gravitational pull, for earth it is because of the sun and the moon. Reason for those overly gigantic waves are due to the enormous gravitational pull of the black hole
@LiteWeightReacting
@LiteWeightReacting 4 ай бұрын
Ah that does make a lot of sense with the waves! Love that they added the clock!
@ianjames1754
@ianjames1754 3 ай бұрын
It’s even more interesting when you consider that Miller’s planet would be tidally locked to Gargantua because of its proximity to the latter’s gravity well; it’s the same phenomenon readily observed much closer to home, where the Moon is tidally locked to Earth and why we permanently only see one side of it. The enormous gravity of the Black Hole would pull the entire ocean up into those absurdly huge waves, but they would actually be stationary so to speak, and because of the planet’s own rotation you would be effectively the one actually moving towards them at the speed they were appearing to approach you, but as you can’t perceive your motion as the planet you’re stood on rotates, it would give the illusion that the waves are moving towards you! It made me think about the effect of tidal heating would have on such a planet existing close enough to the event horizon of a Black Hole to cause such extreme time dilation.; I would imagine the constant stress and strain of expansion and contraction that would be exerted on it would cause volcanism and quakes on a magnitude much greater than any experienced on Earth, or even a global ocean of lava! Maybe it is going through this process,, but in super slow motion to an outside observer because of the time dilation? Things like this have always fascinated me. :D

Oppenheimer might’ve toppled this movie for me just due to the really creative thematic parallels. !SPOILERS BELOW! Only after watching a certain reaction on Oppenheimer did I realize: the part at the beginning with him poisoning the apple, then regretting it the next morning, directly mirrors how his feelings change on the A bomb. Also the way he has children then gives them up, or the way that he promises Jean that he will always be there for her, then he realizes that’s not possible anymore. At his heart, he was impulsive, he did things without thinking. He did things not realizing the responsibility it would place on him later.

Special memories of Tenet. Middle of covid, pretty much the only film in theaters. Out of about 35 viewings, only 2 had another person in the theater. 30+ private screenings across the city. Went repeatedly knowing this was a once in a lifetime moment. Despite the havoc covid brought with it, and although my heart goes out to those adversely impacted, the experience for me was, in a way, because I was in a bubble, magical.

This movie is extremely good, and for each of you who are parents, you know very well the tears in your eyes when you see the end of the movie are not about the movie but about thinking what it would have been with your own children. Christopher Nolan always goes beyond to deliver, but this one is at another level. Well done.

Most people understand the connection between Cooper and Murph, and how their love transcends space and time and allowed him to connect with her in the Tesseract. But, what many people don't quite catch is that Cooper and Brand have the same connection. This is how he was able to have the "handshake" with her and to be brought back to the exact spot he needed to be after the Tesseract. This is emphasised by the music, the 4 tones that are attributed to Murph when "STAY" is played, is the same tone that is played at the end when the montage of Brand is shown.: see 41:55 and 48:55

Same. I saw this in Imax when it came out, and that drving organ music during that sequence with docking the out of control ship rendered me into jelly. About the music… it is mostly organ, which you picked up on. And what do we associate an organ with? A Church. A Church is where you go to get your spirit refilled, recharged and gives you hope. He also stretches out the chord for a long period of time and changes notes within that chord structure. To a minor note(s) to build tension and major note(s) to build your hope that it will all work out for the characters. When he does move notes, it’s usually in an arpeggio (1, 3, 5, upper 1) and then he will move a note to 4, which makes the brain feel out of kilter. Then he can move to a minor 3rd, which causes a sense of sadness or danger. There is very little movement of the notes within the chord structure, he has to rely on dynamics to pull and/or push us along with whatever feeling the film is portraying. It’s a beautiful marriage between music and film. Here’s a little trivia - On the list of the 250 best films ever made, Interstellar is ranked #25!

Somebody who loves movies as much as I do, YAY! Yes, that music, it sounded like faith. Like hope when all hope is lost. Made me think of the idea of the song "Two sparrows in a hurricane" just trying to find their way. And the acting, Matthew was unreal. Damon said something about love only mattering to those in your current vicinity at the time or something weird. More than a "Bad guy" he seemed...broken. He had snapped. Nobody ever mentions Casey Affleck as Murph's brother. (everybody was in this movie but Ben, lol) and how well his small part was played. Especially when he came back in the truck after the cornfield fire and hears the news that their dad had actually saved them. I wish they had said if he was still alive or not. Amazing reaction and you did not get lost like so many do when they watch this the first time, it can be a lot to take in!
