Billy, I am a very big fan. I am also a retired historic Mason repair man. You can add coloring to your mortar mix. Also the day after you do your mortaring you must wash it with muriatic acid and water. This will take the glaze off of the mortar it'll also clean up excess mortar on the stone. Just put a bunch of blankets down to absorb all the water. It's possible you can do it.

You should oil that air hammer or as you call it mini jackhammer before each use with tool oil, about 5 drops before each use. The oil you want to get to do that is called pneumatic air tool oil.

Hi Billy, you are right it does look so much better. A reminder for you. Please clean the dust filter on you vacuum cleaner out as my family have blown up a few due to building work. They didn’t clean them out so it was expensive. I think Alex is a joy. You seem far more relaxed and not as tired which is what we want for you. Alex’s eye sheds a different view on things. I was told, by professionals, that when using electrical extension cables (and even vacuum cleaners) you should always unwind ALL the cable from the reel, because the cables get really hot when wound and, after even a fairly short time, they can melt. This would be BAD, VERY BAD! Safety first, unwind all the cable reel so the cable has ventilation around it. It only takes seconds to unwind and then rewind, so...

I know I’m a 64 year old lady but what I wouldn’t do to be there in the lift working on removing the “grouting “? And cleaning up after all the construction. Oh dear. It’s on my bucket list. Being a very a French Canadian trapped in Texas. My Mom grew up in a convent in Saskatchewan and I vividly remember her stories of the Nuns. Billy, So glad you are being very safe. You could teach Ryan a few things about safety. I'm glad you are changing the color of the pointing. I didn't care for it but I didn't want to make a negative comment( I'm sure you get enough of those). I pretty much love most of your other choices. It's very clear that you really care and love old buildings. Like I said before Gwen must be an angel, she allows you to live your dream and encourages it. What has happened there (a lesson for the learning when restoring traditionally built buildings) is that the plaster/gypsum has drawn the sooty deposits through the stone when the room was warm and the chimney was cold. So it was condensing. Every time you apply impervious materials to stone buildings and it can't breathe this is what will happen at the very least.

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but using air tools, moisture can build up and cause sticky valves, we would put in some air tool oil and occasionally if too sticky, some wd40

Hi Bily you need to put oil in the air inlet fitting often. You should use a brass or a SST wire wheel because it will leave small bits of steel in the stone that will rust I did the same thing and there were rust streaks in week what a mess. Use air tool oil.
