I'm so grateful you are taking every precaution to protect the oak library. The building has a history of damp, so adding a moisture barrier is such a great idea. Could you please give us a clue on what kind of lighting you hope to incorporate in the library? The chandelier in the kitchen is truly extraordinary, but costly. Secretly I'm hoping you find something similar. The beauty, drama, and elegance it brings to the room is definitely worth the cost. ❤
@johnhawkins2105Күн бұрын
I'm in Australia. We don't have damp problems so I know nothing of such things but won't drawing the moisture one way & then trapping it into to wall create damp walls? There are so many videos on damp & mould problems with plaster being removed to dry out walls, etc I'm curious as to how this product alleviates such if it traps moisture in the wall itself?
@hopegrableКүн бұрын
@@johnhawkins2105 hi John! Hope all is well where you are. I'm not sure if you saw Billy's explanation on your question but he is only adding the moisture barrier to the exterior walls. They are adding insulation inside the stud work of the interior walls, to help with heating and sound, but no moisture barrier.

Billy! Here in America when we build new homes we use the vapor barrier on the outside of the house over wood exterior before we put siding on. What you are doing is really no different. Allows the walls to breathe, keeps moisture out, and if you use a faced insulation between the stud work it keeps the room regulated temperature and moisture wise. Great job!
@NeilABliss3 күн бұрын
Yup, depending on the climate a vapor barrier can be on the outside or the inside.
@mikerickards37213 күн бұрын
Jon, not sure how far south you are in the US, but in Canada we use the breathable barrier on the outside of the building as you describe and a impermeable plastic barrier over the studs and behind the plaster board. This prevents interior building moisture from condensing in the insulation during winter months.
@jongoodson56763 күн бұрын
@@mikerickards3721I'm in Idaho . we use the same on the inside too, keep in mind I haven't done carpentry for 20 years, aside from small projects around the home. but the faced insulation often times does the same job if you are on a budget. My house was built in 2008 and they didn't use faced fiberglass insulation and did use the plastic on the studs.

Hi Billy! Do the library walls sit facing the gardens? I was thinking maybe installing one set of French doors at the end for a patio, outdoor seating, and access to the gardens. You are planning on having pathways throughout like the nuns had right? Also, I don't know if you said or imagined it but, did you say you were going to build window seats? I love that idea! As always another great video and seeing the progress you all have made in such a short time or so it seems. Well, it is the 4th of July here in the States so we will be celebrating our independence. Hope you all enjoy your weekend as you have well earned it and I can't wait for another video on Monday! If they do window seats, please keep in mind that most window seats are uncomfortable since their cushions are usually too thin (keep this in mind when choosing box height), their cushions don’t stay in one spot unless upholstered to the deck and putting a lip across the front invariably will jam itself into the back of any occupant’s knees. Light coming in (even if indirect) will damage the upholstery fabrics on the cushions, seating, draperies, wall hangings, and rugs as well as the books. I want this project to succeed beyond anyone’s dreams and I’m rooting for them!
