I can see that it was mainly small offcuts and shouldn't be much of a problem, but in the furture I don't suggest doubling the insulation if it has paper backing on the deeper layer left on it. The paper works as a form of vapor protection, less effectively than modern applications but still somewhat effective, and can cause moisture to build up between the layers and cause dampness in the further layer since it is unable to "breath." This can cause mold and mildew to build up later on. I am not saying rip the walls down and start over, but in the future I would suggest tearing the paper off the back of the deeper portion of insulation to allow proper airflow thus allowing any moisture to be dried out or adding the scrap pieces without backing in the deeper part of the wall then covered by the larger piece of insulation but without smashing the insulation because you want it fully expanded to allow the insulation to do its job properly. Sorry for the tangent, just something I noticed and thought I would share from my experience. Other then that geat works lads, that plaster job looks peak mate!

Look how close it is to the doors As a trained archeologist I shudder every time I see an excavator used. But I just keep reminding myself that in europe the feeling is...oh it's "only 200 years old". Meanwhile, we are hand digging sites from 1800s! Finding the steps to the well is one thing. How to use it in this day and age is diffrent. It may be a curiosity, where you put a piece of clear plastic over it and a light inside. OR It may simply be something that gets covered up again. Either way I suggest running the metal detector over the dirt and muck. Folks used to throw all sorts of stuff into wells, priveys, etc.

Gwen and Billy… Love the idea of an oak railing for the basement stairway! Another place to recycle the remaining bridge railing would be around those newly discovered exterior stairs.
