This is one of the best movies I've seen here. Just super. The drone footage, the photos, the music, the editing. I did the TBM in 2018 but this looks even more spectacular. Few questions.....did you make up the route before the start as it deviates a little from the standard route? Maybe just wanted to see some super places eg cabane de Moiry. Also why no footage from Zinal to Zermatt? Did you skip this part and just took transport?. Which lake are those incredible sunrise and sunset pics from? I've been to the area and want to revist specifically for photos like this. Name the hut again as I didn't catch it. Plus what camera have you? I've a nikon d300 but is heavy and looking for something more lightweight. And finally what wide lens have you?
@JourneywithBrandon2 ай бұрын
That is high praise! Thank you very much, comments like yours are a morale boost. Let me answer your questions: + The HR shares the same opening stages as the TMB, but deviates later on, I think around Le Chable. It's a formal route, we used the Cicerone guidebook "Chamonix to Zermatt, The classic walkers Haute Route" + We skipped the stage departing Zinal due to bad weather, opting to visit Sion and see the castles instead of hiking in the rain with no visibility. The other portions of the route follow the Europaweg, which had been badly damaged due to rock slides earlier that year. so we skipped those too, opting for extra days in Zermatt itself. We used trains and busses on these days. + The lake is called Stellisee in an area called Sunnegga. You take a tram up from Zermatt to get to it. There is the 5-lakes hike up there, and a couple of huts to choose from. The Europaweg actually ends in the area, and walkers typically take the tram down to Zermatt. + I shoot all my work on Olympus (now called OM-System) cameras. They're small, lightweight, durable/weatherproof, and have extremely high visual quality. This film was shot on the OM-D EM-1 Mark II, but my current camera is the OM-5. Lenses in this film include the 12-100mm f/4 Pro (a traveling do-anything favorite) and the 7-14mm f/2.8. (35mm equivalents are 24-200 f/4 and 14-28mm f/2.8). Maybe I'll make a video talking about my kit soon, I'm always asked about it :) Thank you for your comment! I'm glad you enjoyed the film, and let me know if you want to meet up on a hike! I'm eyeing Austria right now, but would love to do the TMB myself, too.
@CRyan712 ай бұрын
@JourneywithBrandon many thanks for the reply. Some channels don't interact. I have many cicerone books. More books than time. Used it for TMB. (Video of trip on you tube). I read recently about the rockfall on the Europaweg so that makes sense. I believe it's a spectacular few days so pity you had to miss it. But yes Zermatt deserves a few days to itself. I must look up that camera. Sounds fab. For some reason I had an idea that Olympus cameras were all non interchangeable lens cameras. I was in Austria last year doing the Stubai Hohenweg but didn't finish it for a few reasons. I was surprised how quiet the Haute route looked. But maybe you didn't shoot with people around. The TBM is very busy. Can I ask you what month you did this trip, if the huts were busy and if you booked each night much in advance?

@@mikewalker3800 Ah - yes, that's the RRS PG-01 panorama head. I use it when I shoot panoramic images, as it mitigates any paralax that would result from pivoting the camera around the body (like a ball-head), rather than the actual nodal point of the lens. This particular head is made for smaller cameras like my Olympus, but larger ones are also available. I've been meaning to make a video about panorama heads, maybe this is the kick I need to actually do it! Also, I'm glad to hear it! Welcome to the channel! Very much enjoyed your video. My son and myself were on the same trails about the same time as you. We started on the TMB and walked for six days counterclockwise from 11 0'clock to 3 o'clock until we switched to the Haute Route at Orsierres. We were at Cab. Mont Fort on Aug 1, Hotel du Barrage on Aug 3 (after Cab Prafleuri was closed due to a bed bug infestation), Cab due Moiry on August 5, & Zinal on August 6. Like you we called the remaining hike off after heavy rain coming out of Zinal on Aug 7th. We just went on to Zermatt. Really enjoyed your video as it brought back memories of our ultimate hiking summer.

Great video and congrats for finishing! But you "cheated" by taking the cable car, taking easier routes around the glaciers. For the full experience you need glacier equipment. Doing that with trailrunners is only for pros. Still nice hike, keep going!

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it! In the future I'm planning on documenting other multi-day trips, assuming travel fully reopens again soon 😎 I do want to note that The Walker's Haute Route doesn't actually lead across or up any glaciers or demand special equipment, and technically our one crossing at the Cabane Des Dix was simply a fun side-excursion (easily done with trail running shoes). As for the occasional cable car, I regret nothing on account of my IT band. I felt much better and lasted far longer because I took them, and the experience was far more enjoyable.

The best advice I can offer is to buy the Haute Route guide-book from Cicerone Press, and start with that! If you buy the Print + Digital version, it also includes GPS coordinates and pathways. However, the route is simple and easy enough that you likely won't use them, but they're nice to have. Buy it from the Cicerone website too, to ensure you get the most recent version! www.cicerone.co.uk/chamonix-to-zermatt-sixth I've been wanting to make a video talking about how I planned this trip out, maybe this is the inspiration I need to do so. I'm excited to hear about your own trip! It's a challenging, yet fulfilling and life-changing experience. In the meantime, buy a copy or two of the book, and that will get you started without a doubt. Also If you haven't yet, consider subscribing! There's much more to come on the channel. 😎

I appreciate the feedback! Coloring video is still a new science to me, but I'll get the hang of it. Glad you enjoyed it!

What time of year was your trip?
@JourneywithBrandon4 жыл бұрын
August. No snow on the passes, but we were rained on frequently (as you can see), and it can come quickly. I HIGHLY recommend buying this book from Cicerone. It gives you all the information you need, and buying the digital version provides you with GPS maps for your device (but bring a physical copy along with you too!): www.cicerone.co.uk/chamonix-to-zermatt-sixth Feel free to link up with me on my Facebook page too! facebook.com/PhotographyBrandonNeubert

This video is so awesome! Thanks for doing this! I hope to walk te haute route this July. Was wondering what the deal is with the walking poles, were you sharing a pair because one forgot to bring them?
@JourneywithBrandon3 жыл бұрын
If you do, you'll love it! I hope you get to do it :) Haha! We both just prefer one walking stick rather than two. We bought them in Chamonix since you can't bring them on airplanes.

Hey Brandon, I enjoyed your video and the gorgeous scenery on Haute Route very much. Thanks for sharing your planning tips and detail itinerary with us. I am just wondering what's the name of the hotel you stayed in Zermatt that is super close to the place of sunrise? Thanks a lot!!
@JourneywithBrandon4 жыл бұрын
No problem! I'm glad you enjoyed the film :) I recommend staying at the Fluhalp. We were able to get a place on walk-in, of course results may vary. It isn't in Zermatt proper, it's really in Sunnegga, accessible by taking the funicular at Sunnegga station from Zermatt. The 5-lakes trail is fantastic, and spending a day up there is easy :) I'm glad the trip planning video helped you out too - I was hoping it would be! Cheers, -B Link to Fluhalp: g.page/fluhalp?share

Sehr schönes Video! Jedoch solltet ihr für eine solche Tour bessere Schuhe tragen. Die meisten Unfälle geschehen durch ungenügende Ausrüstung!
@JourneywithBrandonКүн бұрын
Danke, aber diese Schuhe waren perfekt für den Job! 😄 I have worn them hundreds and hundreds of miles while hiking. I have bought multiple pairs of this shoe and would never change.

I really like the video, beautiful shots. One thing though: it would be much more enjoyable without the music.

That's good feedback! Was there one song in particular that you didn't like?

@@JourneywithBrandon Kumono Kodo Trail in Japan is on my short list! Plus the O Route Torres Del Paine. I can’t wait to see what you produce next. The quality of your images is on point!

Too bad the loud (andbad) music makes it barely watchable, why do that ??
@JourneywithBrandon3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate your feedback and I'm sorry you feel that way. I personally love every song that I used, which is why they were included! Most people have also loved the music and several have even requested the track names and artists. Was there one in particular that you disliked? As far as volume is concerned, I did my best to balance all music according to usable dialogue in each clip. If the music seems to overpower our voices it might be because of too much wind or rain and so I provided subtitles accordingly. In environments like these, sound recording is the most difficult to produce well. This is also the first film I've ever produced, so next time maybe I'll reduce the music during dialogue more. Lots of good lessons were learned for next time :)

nice pictures, but a terrible soundtrac! Why can't you just enjoy the great landscape without the noise of that terrible music?!
@JourneywithBrandon5 ай бұрын
Well then hit the mute button :) Many have enjoyed the music, some have not. Can't please everybody. I'm glad you like the pictures though and I hope you can do the hike someday too! See you on the trail.

I really wanted to see this video having seen the "How to plan and hike..." and seems like wery good fotage 4k and all. BUT the Music! it´s just horrible, flattening´, degrading, stupifying, conveing all of the inner emotions of a 8 year old child in disneyland and an utterly offence to all the otherwise beautiful landskabe and making. Well... did not really want to be so negative, the music might trigger other feeling for you than for me (im pretty sure) due to difference in age and culture i guess! All things good to you. Will take approx the same route, along a few via ferrata rutes in the summer 2024.
@JourneywithBrandon Жыл бұрын
You'll enjoy the route, it's really a special experience. I'm not familiar with via Feratas along this particular route but if that's your thing then I might suggest the Alta Via 2 or 3 instead in the dolomites? I just completed the Alta Via 1 this year which is a walking route but climbers and VF routes are everywhere. Producing a "film" like this takes a lot of work and music selection is one of the most difficult parts of post production. I've had both positive and negative feedback on the music I chose, but in the end I chose what I liked for each stage, and every stage is unique! Skip forward to the next and you may enjoy that music more than the previous. Good luck on your adventure! 😎
