I suspect being able to "wing it" and get great results is one of the strongest indications of mastering a craft.

Oh wow that’s great how those inks turned out. I like how the acorn ink looks too. I have got Oak acorns & Black Walnuts in my yard that I have been thinking 🤔 of experimenting with too for inks. I will definitely have to figure out how to make the powder & from what parts (caps, shells, husks). Thanks for sharing this fun & interesting video.

Here I am on a Friday night, watching an absolutely stunning woman make medieval ink-I had no idea that my golden years were going to be so exciting!

This was such an amazing and helpful video, I'd love to see more beautiful things made out of scratch like this. I live in a dry forest environment in the very South of Mexico and I like to collect materials to make art, and this was amazing to see

New to the channel, great video! I myself have a real fondness for brown inks. I saw your bottle of Walnut Drawing Ink and have enjoyed using it many times with my dip pens. I even have a few hybrid pens ive made that combine the continuous feed of a fountain pen with the flex and hairlines of the Brause Rose nib. Your walnut ink & acorn ink making was a success! Very well done...and then to watch you use it in your own hand was magical. My go-to brown ink right now is Platinum Classic Sepia-Black (an iron gall based ink) Noodlers Walnut ink, and my own unique dip pen ink thats a mix of both Walnut Drawing Ink & Black Iron Gall ink.... would love to hear more from you on the topic of beloved inks/pens! -A Friend In NY

The acorn ink looks more golden, and the walnut ink seems more somber. And I love it. It never occurred to me that inks could have fumes. Silly me. I love that the cat has taken its responsibility as inspector seriously.

Happy New Year Maydi! Definitely in love with that acorn ink, so warm and beautiful. I also see you have excellent taste in mustard ;). Great idea turning the jar into a vase; I'm going to have to do that once we finish ours.

I love your videos. There's something that makes my heart beat faster😊 I love how you make inks I'm going to try them my self too! I have some questions though, can I use these inks for fountain pens? Or the iron gall waterproof inks you made some years earlier?

If walnut ink has similar properties to walnut husks, there should be some level of permanence. As a kid, we used to play with black walnuts and they would stain our hands and clothes.

This is what I have observed as well! The tannins are quite powerful, which makes for nice ink properties.

Yes, the acorn is beautiful, but the walnut's darker tone I think gives it a bit more depth and character for my taste. And tha Nakarada music was a perfect choice!

Just as a little experiment, I wonder what would happen if you added some copperas to both the walnut and acorn inks. Would it become a sort of brownish iron gall?
