I strongly suspect that the old recipe called for egg white, but meant glair which is made by whipping egg whites and letting them sit for a day. It is a traditional base for watercolor paints and for inks, but it has largely been replaced by gum arabic.

I never did any classical marbling techniques, but used the more modern colour options - not on paper, but for decorative easter eggs ( in Germany we blow out eggs to decorate and paint the shells to hang on bushes and trees). I love hearing about and watching you try these classical techniques :3

@@SolisScriptorivm Not sure if it works with the classical colours, but it sure does with those modern ones :3, that would work with plastic ones, too, but I still like the actual eggs - you can use the eggs for pancakes or omelettes or whatever, so there's nothing going to waste there :) And marbling the eggs themselves is pretty easy, too, you just create patterns like you did here and then let the eggs (ideally threaded alredy) sink through the coloured surface, so the paint sticks to them :) Also, I'm in love with the colours you chose, especially the indigo and the spinach-ey green :3

When you see petroleum or Petro in old books it means kerosene, which oddly, in orderless form is used to get stains out of clothing at the dry- cleaners, since they don't use water, they call it drycleaning even though kerosene is a liquid. I would not use oils or solvents. Very cool video!

Seems like the paint going into the water and fanning out reminded me of fireworks! You've encouraged me to have a go. Gonna try it on different types of papers and cotton fabrics.

Theres a pretty steep learning curve but I think you did great. They are beautiful. I think the granulation looks cool. Can you top coat the papers somehow? Like with a fixative?
