I usually agree with Bill on almost everything . But Caleb Downs getting hit by a kickoff that was probably coming at him 70 mph , putting that on Coach Day is a little far fetched. Oregon never showed that on tape , directly kicking it at someone very hard. I can be prepared for rain , but not a lightning strike. This game Oregon got all the breaks and the ball bouncing their way. And yet still OSU was 1 second away from kicking a potential winning FG. CALM DOWN the sky is not falling. If this game was played in Columbus ,OSU wins by double digits. Also Will Howard is NOT a good deep ball thrower. He is constantly under throwing Jeremiah Smith on deep throws.

How about putting a backup QB in for 4 or 5 plays a game to try a couple of deep throws? If the defense doubles deep, then let the backup hit the intermediate stuff or throw a screen pass to a RB. We see backup QBs sent in all the time to run the ball, but why not use our backups to throw a few?

@@drewpinniger3378 All but one, yes. All the calls/non calls but the one, all the bounces went their way, a miracle play and even help from our coaches on last drive and were able to keep the one point win. Only positive is that no way could it all be tilted one way again like it was last night, so I'd have extreme confidence OSU would handle Oregon fairly easily in Indy if the Bucks make it. Not sure they'll make it with this hot garbage D however.

44:15 Ryan Day used to do those kinds of things. Remember 2019 Maryland game, he had the kicker pop the ball up to Chris Olave who was running down the sideline. The more he losses the more conservative he gets. He was handed a Lamborghini and all he had to do was not wreck the damn thing and all he had done is wreck the damn thing. Urban gifted him a culture of being mean and physical and he takes it and changes it to love conquers all. Then he wonders why people call(ed) Ohio State soft for the last 3 years because they got out physicalled on the line. Denzel Burke got taken for a 20 yard ride by a WR who was smaller than him. He put limits on Coach Micks workouts and here we are dealing with the same thing.

I might be in the vast minority, but ive never felt this confident after a loss in my life! We lost by 1 point in the other side of the country to the current #2 team in the nation. We only dropped to #4 and that tells us what the non-biased observers think. Losing sucks, but every goal is still within reach. Lock in, win out, avenge this loss in Indy.

First, loss of Simmonds is catastrophic. Second, I am of the belief that our defense needs to make big plays in order to win big games so I ran some numbers on Urban Meyer against top 5 opponents and Ryan Day against top 5 opponents. Used sports reference for my numbers. Urban 6-2 Ryan Day 2-7. In 8 games Urbans teams forced 15 turnovers an average of 1.87 per game, they had 19 sacks an average of 2.37 per game, and they had 54 tackles for loss an average of 6.75 per game. In contrast in 9 games (counting 2021 Michigan who at the time was ranked number 6 but would finish top 5) Ryan Day's teams have forced 5 turnovers an average of .55 per game, they have 14 sacks an average of 1.55 per game and they have 34 tackles for loss an average of 3.77 per game. These numbers are drastically different and the big game results follow suit.

I'm an Ohio State alumn, however, I'm a big fan but not a fanatical one. I also prefer to look at things with sober objectivity and reading through the comments here just made me roll my eyes over and over and over again. People trying so hard, practically crawling out of their skin, to defend this performance in some way. To somehow make it into some sort of moral victory. Well if only this or that happened. Please, just stop. Just stop. This is all on Day first and foremost, after that it's all on the rest of coaching staff. Day has also established a pattern at this point of laying eggs against any opponent worth their salt, while blowing out weaker teams. It all smells of a certain John Cooper of days gone by. Yes, there's still at least half of the season left to play and we will see where it all ends, but at this point, my confidence in Day is pretty shot. And again, it's because he has established a pattern of failure against actual good, important opponents.

18:20 Howard got them to field goal range by going 4/4 and getting them to the 28 with .34 seconds left. Why did Day decide to keep passing the ball? You run two plays to get 5 yards, you still have a time out and then you kick a 35 yrd field goal for the win with no time left. Why did he keep throwing the ball like if he needed a TD to win the game? The loss is no the coaches. It is not on Howard. He should have never been in that position.

I feel that the last drive was managed so good! until after the Emeka catch @ the 28.. that's when we Run with the best RB duo in the country.. after Emeka catches that ball and we are in great shape for a field goal.. we have 20 plus seconds and that was a fresh set of downs.. so we can run it and run Oregon out of timeouts.. using Judkins and Trey Now these boys.. this coaching staff.. Better use this like 2014 did their loss. Fuel this offense and defense to be the biggest monsters in college football and Ryan needs to stop relying on perfect execution and all the talent in the world. If he plays like Urban and Tressel did with the talent they paved the way for Ryan to have, it's 7-2 not 2-7. We run away with this game and teams are scared of Ohio State again. no fear man, no fear and that's on the coaching But we can't be firing people haha.. the future is bright and shining @ Ohio State there is more to a loss than anger. don't let Anger fuel your words is all I am saying :3 Day still has to beat ttun, still has to win the b1g title and run the playoffs. That's still probably going to happen this season.. I love Tress but he didn't have to coach in the Era Urban or Day is and coached in.. A Saban Led bama! that was the only thing keeping him from a title in 2020.. Or before that, The clemson with Trevor Lawrence.. he could had 2 titled back to back in year 1 and 2. while beating ttun 2 times in a row as well, without a white flag.. Thing unfold how they do and there are just more fine lines to look @ here.. once covid lifted I feel like that's when Ryan really got to take control of this team and make it his. Not Urbans left overs, but his and he has a crazy roster.. he isn't out! he can still have a record year with a W against Oregon and a title in both the B1G and Nationally. most importantly ! the W over ttun

It's only a penalty after the ball is snapped and the play is run. The offense can accept the results of the play or the 5 yard penalty. A rule change is needed to reset the clock back to it's starting point when the penalty is accepted. Otherwise, the team committing the illegal substitution penalty has an incentive to add players to the field to prevent a big play knowing it only costs them 5 yards and they can force the clock to run down by doing so.

The more I think about All the seniors returning I’ve come to the conclusion it wasn’t necessarily a great thing. Burke, JTT, Sawyer are not the best at their respective positions. Matthews, Curry, & Jackson are better imo. Because of their seniority the coaches cannot be afraid to make a change. This was unacceptable by the aforementioned seniors. A changed needed to made in game and wasn’t because of the kumbaya shit RD has going on in our program. Also, WTF isnJalani Thurman? He would’ve been a complete mismatch against those small as DB and linebackers. This coaching staff has to quit overthinking and start playing the best players. Period. When Knowles said, Arvalle Reese can’t start because of the “specialized track to greatness” he’s on, I knew something was up. This staff is not playing the best & most deserving players and this Oregon game made is obvious.

I'm tending to agree. These returning players have done nothing but lose big games since they were freshmen. That's all they know how to do. I guess the defense is more the case. The offensive guys were fine. But Burke, Sawyer, Tuimoloau, Hancock, Ransom, Hamilton were all outclassed from one degree to another, especially Burke, who was so horrible they had to go almost exclusively zone to hide him.

Fair criticism from Doug that we need more special plays to dial up. Saban did the same thing as Lanning on a kickoff in the natty against Clemson. Unfair criticism of clock management IMO. It’s easy to go back when looking for one second, but we were at the 20 yd line with 20+ seconds left before the penalty. We would’ve kicked the ball to end the game and Oregon would’ve never touch the ball again. Seems like perfect clock management to me.

We were never at the 20 yard line on that last drive. We were at the 28 yard line, not the 20. After the offensive pass interference penalty, we were pushed back to the 43 yard line and out of field goal range. We never got back in good field goal range. With 6 seconds left, we were at the 38 yard line, which would have been a 55 yard kick and that is a low, low percentage kick for our kicker.

It’s not the reason we lost, but can someone explain the rules to me as it applies to the 12 men penalty? If you can load up your players to commit a penalty to run clock, why wouldn’t everyone do it? In that scenario any defense would trade five seconds for five yards. I don’t care if it’s discovered pre snap or post snap by the officials. That shouldn’t matter. We keep focusing on Knowles and his defense (when not that long ago he was the solution to our prior DC problem). That’s fine, but you hired a guy from the Big 12, where no defense is played.
