I see pictures of pools that have popped out of the ground. What do you do to make sure that doesn't happen? I know it has something to do with the water table and hydro static valve but how do you get the valve out/undone when the pool is full?

thepoolguy, I’m curious. Are the majority of pools that you work on tiled? In the US, the majority of inground pools are concrete/gunite with some sort of plaster finish. The cost of a tiled pool interior is crazy expensive!
@Shaynewarner1 Жыл бұрын
I work for a pool maintenance company in the southern part of the UK. We tend to have a lot of liner pools around our service area. There are a decent amount of tiled pools, and atleast from my experience, concrete / gunite pools are the least common here as they don't look as nice. Baring in mind we usually get called out to service pools for older people who have had these pools for quite some time, and can no longer do the work themselves. They have generally had a lot of work done to the pools already, due to the amount of time they have owned the property that has the pool. I can think of a couple of concrete painted pools that we service, plus a gunite pool that we open / close. But the vast majority are liner pools or tiled pools. It costs a significant amount of money to own a pool in the UK. People that have money to burn on a pool are generally going to want it to look nice, which is why liners and tiled pools seem to be more common. Atleast that is how I see it.
@danaparish1644 Жыл бұрын
@@Shaynewarner1 Thanks for your perspective. They are definitely BEAUTIFUL POOLS! They will truly last a lifetime, but incredibly expensive here!

Probably a good reason why not but why do pools not have a drain in the bottom for emptying?
@justin4n6 Жыл бұрын
This one has a drain, if you watch the end its the white area in the deep end of the pool. They likely didn't use it due to not wanting to run dried cement/ mortar thru the pool pump, organic matter is one thing cement and mortar I would assume would not be good to put thru the pumps.
@kevinkant6817 Жыл бұрын
That’s not to drain the pool
@Shaynewarner1 Жыл бұрын
If you were implying having a drain as in a bath tub plug hole, that would be prone to leakage over time and would cause more trouble than it was worth. However, the main issue with that idea is that it would lead to a large volume of water sitting on the outside of the pool shell when you tried to drain the pool. Think of having a chinese takeaway container full of water. If you poke a hole in that, the water is going to gradually seep out to the surrounding area. When the water rises up the side of the container, it will begin to float. The same idea can and will happen to a pool, causing a significant amount of problems. Not to mention the fact that once the water level outside the pool reaches the same level as is inside of the pool, you'd be waiting for days or even weeks for it to all drain away into the surrounding area. If you were implying the pool should have a standard pool drain to use the main pool pump to empty the pool via the customers filtration, yes that is a valid idea. However, as justin4n6 has stated, solid chunks like cement and mortar aren't great for pool pumps. Little bits can find their way through the pump basket and into the impeller, which will wear down the impeller fairly quickly. They could also find their way to the pump seal and tear it to shreds, causing a leak. However that is just for this particular pool. As a rule of thumb, our company wouldn't use a customers filtration to empty a pool for a number of reasons, mainly surrounding protecting the customers pump. Someone could forget to turn the pump off, or it could loose prime, then sit there and burn itself out if it's running for too long without a fresh feed of water. There are some other reasons, but those are the main ones. We prefer to use our own equipment, as we know it isn't going to cause a massive problem or an unexpected bill to the customer if our equipment breaks down. Plus we have spare equipment, whereas we don't carry spare brand new pool pumps.

The heated pools that I service seem to still be getting used when it's not raining. They definitely aren't seeing as much use as last year though. The unheated pools seem to basically be sitting dormant in hopes of nicer weather, however I don't forsee that happening any time soon.
