I appreciate the heart behind this. A couple of statements I just can’t understand. I could be wrong but I just had to comment: 1.) “It’s only by the grace of God that I’m not behaving like they are” Is it? Or is it that I’ve taken responsibility for my actions, repented, and worked hard to change behaviors? I understand grace is necessary to extend to those who are struggling, but that doesn’t discount accountability for inappropriate behaviors. Compassion and patience are key, but it seems to me that just accepting those behaviors is also not healthy. 2.) “Hatred of self is pride”- Not sure how that could be pride, seems more like it’s self loathing which is the opposite of pride. The last thing a person struggling with this needs to hear is that they’re prideful, that’s just going to make them feel even worse about themself. I agree that we can shift the focus from ourselves to God. 3.) “A godly man will not hold a woman’s baggage against her” A godly man will also not stay in a situation with some one who lacks awareness in the area of purity, gossip, manipulation, and overall maturity. I see it as wisdom to consider that baggage in a relationship. This just felt over the top and condemning. I think you guys are a great church and I appreciate your messages. This one just didn’t sit right with me, God bless.
