Just one little thing I wanted to add: Some people probably don't like mixing old and new technology, like I did when I inserted LEDs and an Arduino into that old lamp enclosure. But you have to see it that way: Nobody has had any use for these lamps in probably over thirty years. Sure the way they were, they were nostalgic and genuine, but they were also just collecting dust in a shelf, while now they will serve a purpose and that purpose is different from what they were made for. I want the lights to flash, so that they will catch people's attention and those old bulbs are just not made for that. Others might wonder: Why do you use something as complex as an Arduino, for such a simple task? Well if you've been following the channel for a number of years, you will know, that I build stuff WITHOUT microcontrollers a lot more often than most of today's hobbyists, but in some cases even I had to realize, that a microcontroller just offers a lot of potential to add new features to something I'm working on later on. While adding new physical circuits would require me to rip the board out of the enclosure and start soldering again, it is possible to just-re-program the arduino at a later date and integrate other features of the alarm system into this same enclosure, without the need for additional components and circuitry. For example: sensors and hidden switches can just be connected to the free I/O pins of the Arduino and it can act as a simple alarm system in itself. While a simpel multivibrator circuit or an NE555 can also flash the lights, it just doesn't have that kind of potential to develop this part into a more capable alarm system. Whenever I use microcontrollers I always think about future changes to the initial (often very basic) design.

Love that alarm system! The radio tester is cool. I tried to repair the radio out of my 80's truck, it seems to have lost the bass control and it just puts out an unusual amount of bass to all of the speakers, potentially damaging them. I found a few puffed out capacitors and replaced them but the issue still seems to be there.
@DieselRamcharger
@DieselRamcharger 3 жыл бұрын
heres a video that at about 2:20 has a chart that correlates driver response frequency to capacitor mfd rating. this will help you isolate which cap is bad. alternately you can install the caps inline to the speaker as a "bass blocker". kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZDEnoKkfs1kidE

FYI you can mod these BMW units to allow aux input. If you open one up, the cassette tray mechanism is separate and has a relatively obvious three-wire bus that feeds into the main board of the radio. This is L/R/GND line-level stereo, it's possible to hijack it to some typical RCA standoffs. Search "C33 aux mod" for more info.

About the bunker: I cleaned out a cesspool last year which I now use as a rainwater tank for garden irrigation. It wasn't in use for 20 years, but the coloring on the wall and ceiling looked exactly like in your pit. In my case, it was concrete all around, except for one spot, maybe 50x50 cm² where there was no concrete, but gravel. If you find something like that, you can be sure it was a cesspool (Sickergrube), because it is an intentional leak to not have to clean it out so often. The ground underneath might be contaminated then, so think twice if you wanna buy the property. Especially if there was some industry located in the area... Cheers!

Yes, I agree. I think those rooms in the outside building in the woods are likely to be a generator room and a water tank room for some sort of water based industrial process , perhaps stone cutting which would require a water supply. It looks too civilian to be a bunker as such.

The desk fan is definately a keeper. I live in New Zealand but if I was closer I would ask to buy it from you, also we are 230/240 volts and 50 Hertz so I don't know what the rating on the fan is. Those radios remind me of the Alpine and Blaupunkt Mercedes Benz radios of the 1970's/80's which are very,very collectable, and I like them especially the ones with 2 dials and the buttons in the middle (early design). If you ever find those in the junkyard, take it home, MB enthusiasts will be your best friends! Even the classic Hirshmann antenna are sought after. Like the alarm and warning lights, and how you put it up with weather protection, good design. Thank you for posting, we like your content.

My dad also made an alarm system in his workshop with a similar signal horn, but without lights. 12:20 The alarm system sounds like an attack warning on a battleship or a submarine diving down.

Great work, as always, bravo. I can't believe that people are throwing stuff and tools that are still working or can be repaired very fast and cheaply. That Makita drill, for 20 euros what you payed for parts and the price that you payed for her in the scrap yard, you can get 70 to 80 euros easily... I live in Croatia, and I would love to go to scrap yard to find and buy old and used tools for my personal use, but I can't do this because this is

The alarm system using that old klaxon and lights is great, absolutely no problem with me mixing old and new if they have a new lease of life, I like the car radio tester as well, another excellent Repair A Thon video.

Given the holes on the ceiling and the 2 overflow ports that look like windows, and unpainted cement covering the walls, I'd guess it was a water tank of some sort. Maybe for irrigation? All the junk were thrown in it as a storage when it no longer was used as water storage.

Sounds like a good idea. The upper portion of the building may have been for the pump and drive motor. They may have made it look like a dwelling just for aesthetics.

I trash picked an ATV identical to the one you've found. To improve the fit (I'm 6'1"), and tip-over stability, I plan to widen the track with spacers, or wider tires, and swap, or fab new handlebars, and/or steering shaft to extend/move the grip forward.

I was using a minidisk player in 2005 - for the sole reason it was a lot easier to get in your pocket and the discs didn't get scratched and on long play recording the quality was pretty decent but you could get 2-3 CD's worth of music on a single minidisk. I was using minidisk from 2002 to 2006 and then I got an mp3 player and sold my minidisk player. CD's are a great format - they are still made and sold and people still have large collections of them. I think its pretty incredible that Sony and Philips managed to develop them when they did - to encode all that data, to make such a durable format and to make relatively affordable compact players. I still use my CD player every now and again although I ripped a lot of music off of mine into a format called FLAC which is apparently "lossless" in terms of the human ear.

another feature of German (VW, Audi, Porsche) 90s car radios is a aftermarket iPod circuit that plugs into the optional CD changer. all the factory CD controls work like normal so that will make restorers happy, no wires cut.

I use a taurus fan from this period or a bit earlier every time it gets hot (or my clothes need to dry a bit faster). Mine is a stylish brown and has a dial that is a combined on/off switch and stepless speed control. Really nice and quiet, way quieter than any modern fan

I have also experimented with various DC motors. I built a lawn tractor with a golf cart motor(rated 36v-48v) I will now like to experiment using Lithium cells since the Lead Acid batteries are heavy and bulky, but they are more stable in the conditions the machine will be in. It would be cool to get your thoughts on this potential changeover👍🏻

On the side of the road I found a Makita drill just like this with charred armature wires. I ordered a new armature from amazon and got it working again. In the same makita box there was a makita impact driver that needed new brushes (aud$5) and a charger which worked. I cant believe someone would throw them out, they seamed so well used that it must have been a tradesmans tools, I am quite surprised that he did not know how easy it is to repair makita tools. Every component comes out easily and diagrams are readily available on spare part websites

That sounds unlikely, being a factory car stereo, the only one that I know (don't ask me how I know) that used to get stolen was the alpine units out of the Saab's... The old black with the lime green buttons, back when Alpine was Alpine! Today's Alpine looks like everything else!

Definateley looks like water storage to me. My family bought an abandoned waterworks (in england) and the building we built our house on has tens of small concrete rooms underneath it that are all linked with small passages, that would have been used for water storage.

hey! Spaniard viewer here. that brand was most likely Taurus as is, but manufacturing here under a different name. In the 70's we were still under a brief dictatorship, so it was normal for foreing brands to produce here under a different name. just like indigenous made Land Rover cars were branded as "Santana"
