This sounds amazing! I wish my kids would sit for any of this. My 9 yr old daughter probably would, but my boys (14, 11, 7) would absolutely revolt. They can't stand sitting and reading and it is a constant struggle. I love your plans though!
@thepracticalhomeschooler6 ай бұрын
Aww man, no advice for moms with boys…the little guys won’t sit still even a couple of minutes? Hey, you could always do a mom/daughter basket 😃
@stephanien17646 ай бұрын
@@thepracticalhomeschooler a couple minutes maybe 🤔 Honestly my youngest son (7) can pay attention better than his 14 yr old brother. I am constantly amazed at how different my daughter is from the boys. I imagine a house of girls is quite different than what I'm used to! Enjoy your summer ☀️ 😁

I have an equal number of boys and girls and they all sit and listen well the same. But independent work….thats our struggle 😂😂😂

The Cold Case books are amazing. If you go to their website, there are activity pages you can print out to go along with each of the chapter lessons and also a completion certificate. I found it very interesting how he explained Christianity based on his experience as a detective. It helps kids grasp the concepts in ways they can put into practice in modern times.

Penderwicks is the best series ever! Especially with girls. You will love the whole series. We did them as read alouds and now my oldest is re reading them herself this summer. 🥰 We technically year round homeschool. But we usually take a six week break and start in July. My oldest just fractured her wrist so being in a cast messed up our summer plans so we are considering starting back up earlier and then taking a second big break later in the summer.

O bummer! Definitely not a fun way for her to spend her summer 🙁 I hope she heals quickly!

Such a God moment deciding to watch this today. My rising third grader has been asking some tough faith questions lately, too. We started a Case for Christ for kids but I’m going to go ahead and add in Cold Case Christianity!

Looks like a great lineup! We do year round (only lighter in the summer). I try to add more nature study type activities in summertime to get us exploring more outdoors. We have long winters here (sometimes the weather is icky for 8 months) so we spend more time outside for sure! Happy summer!!

8 months?! Oof that’s rough 😮💨 gotta enjoy every second of summer then!

I think some of our best Morning Times are in the Summer. It’s just more relaxed and often outside in the backyard.☀️ Great line up! We just do Bible (all year), a little math review, and finish up read alouds we have not finished yet. 😊

Sounds like great summer plans! Code Monkey seems so awesome! I’m definitely going to look into that for my kiddos. 😍 We picked up The Lemonade War as well because I have seen sooo many homeschool families LOVE and rave about it and unfortunately had to stop reading it only a few chapters in. Just a heads up that you may want to pre read a bit to see if it’s a fit for your family. I was surprised to see so much name calling, negativity and not nice behavior and we ultimately decided for our fam that it wasn’t something that we wanted to read. We did not finish the book so I’m not sure how it ends but just thought I’d put that out that just in case that’s something that doesn’t align with your family either. 😅

This was my first year homeschooling. My son and daughter just finished up preschool. We plan on taking a break for the summer and just play and spend time together. My son has a Brain Quest book for the summer that he is loving, so I will leave that out for him if he chooses to work on it. Same witb my daughter with her letter book she has. But it will be very informal and they can do it when and if they want. They are so used to school and routine they will just ask, "Can we do school?"

We just do reading and usually some kind of worksheet in the summer! This year I am having them do a handwriting book because that always seems to get shoved to the side during the year 😂

Honestly, I can see that! We’ve been working on the last handwriting evaluation for a couple weeks now for the same reason 🫣

I've heard different opinions on this, but how many tgtb science units would be appropriate for a school year? We are considering using a few units plus some science read a louds. I will have a fourth and fifth grader.
@thepracticalhomeschooler6 ай бұрын
In years past, we've done 4 per year. This year was just 2 1/2 because we added in other resources.
@ashgarstin43076 ай бұрын
@@thepracticalhomeschooler Ok great. We thought we would give the units a try this year. They looked really fun and more open and go which I really need this year. I ordered four so hopefully it will be a good fit. Thanks!

@thepracticalhomeschooler6 ай бұрын
It’s a monthly subscription of like $7. It’s a 10 minute news segment that covers world news but also human interest pieces. I believe they usually have free trials going

I homeschool my Grandson for the school year until his (PS teacher) Mom is off for the Summer. I try to have her continue with some math skills and independent reading, but she's done with teaching by the times ps school is out. I think she'll do it this year since he's older now. 🤷🏼♀️
