Wow been doing that knot for years, made my loops completely differently and in half the time but still end up exactly like yours. Never knew it had a name. Really enjoy your videos.

Watched others who thought they were teaching but thumbs and fingers blocking view and at their advanced speed of doing it themselves for a long time and they thought they were instructing how to tie this knot. No, they were just causing annoyance and angst. You on the other hand did it very well. You are a teacher.

So many Canadian Jam Knot videos do not make it clear how to feed the working end through the loop ... kudos for making a big deal out of that!

Finally. That one detail that I messed up from time to time and didn’t know what was wrong. Dyslexia is no fun.

had to leave a comment, excellent and superb, I been searching to tie boxes for shipping and I think this will work for me. If you have any idea for a much simpler manner using one long string, either twin or nylon, please let me know. Again thank you.

This is great when setting up a tripod for hanging a cookpot or for shelter using two tripods and a stick between them. I also use this knot for tying a shade cloth around the rim of a 55 gallon drum to catch rain and keep dirt out.

Я полагаю, что сваечную петельку следует заменить рыбацкой. I believe that the pile loop should be replaced with a fishing loop.

I guess it gets so cold that Canadien jam freezes solid, and can be sold and carried home wrapped only in string and tied with this knot. 😉

It's an arbor Knot if it's only used for a fishing reel, and it's slightly different. She demonstrates the perfect way to build a Canadian jam knot, which is used in Bush craft.

a simple knot with some uses but WAY overrated in the bushcraft world.

I tend to agree, I do use it in a few key places though and in those applications so far I've found it the best one to use. (cinching around a rock to throw it up over a branch or something high for a bear hang or high tarp shelter; at the non-adjustable end of my bow (in a bow/drill fire application); around my water bottle, etc.)

Sorry you found that, I find this knot really useful. For two years I took my daughter to school on my motorbike, this is the knot that held her schoolbag to the pack rack. This knot compresses sleeping bags for camps and blankets for storage round the home. So I find it pretty useful. As for names, in the video she mentions it is also known as an arbor knot. Knots often have different names in different parts of the world and when being used in different ways/industries.

It's a great knot for using on a fishing reel when spooling on new line. I've also seen where one has used the Arbor/Canadian Jam/Butcher's knot to begin a bundle wrap tie.

Like most knots, how it is applied is critical. It's certainly not in the top 5 knots I use most often, but in a few applications I find it to be the best knot for the job that I've found so far. Here are some examples: cinching around a fist-sized rock to throw it up over a branch or something high for a bear hang or high tarp shelter; at the non-adjustable end of my bow (in a bow/drill fire application); around my water bottle in place of the fragile loop it comes with, and making quick and line-saving square lashings for building frames to name a few.
