NorCal Spring Competitive Stunt Cheer Invitational

Freedom High School claimed first place in the NorCal Spring Competitive Stunt Cheer Invitational in Oakley, Calif., Saturday, March 9, 2019. They edged out Liberty 12-11 in the final round of competition that saw the lead change hands several times. Freedom coach Sandra Torres is interviewed after the match and routines performed by Freedom, Heritage and Liberty high schools are featured in the video.

@@user-jq3bb6oo4t It's STUNT, which is a newer form of competitive cheer (not really new it's been around for years, but it's much lesser known). It's set up in the way traditional sports are, with different rounds, players in matching unis & numbers, and the focus is on perfect technique more than the performance quality that's found in allstar or school comp cheer. You compete head-to-head with another squad doing the exact same routine, so judges can see side-by-side technique comparison.

It kind of looks like they're all in warmups. I mean, as a coach I'd still want my kids to practice smiling lol, but it doesn't appear that they're in front of an audience yet, where it matters.
