I dunno, I didn't find it that hard of a leap?
@GigsTaggart2 ай бұрын
@@ashleigh. Definitely easier once you know the solution. When anything could be a clue, it's a lot harder. I was the one that noticed a lot of the words had roman numeral letters, then girn figured out that the words had all the numbers from 1-13, then we quickly solved it after that (prime had done the dancing man cipher part hours before). But before that point, literally anything could be the solution, like the placement of the words on the page, the dots in the font, the buttons on the shirt. Until you've tried a goldbug type contest, it's hard to explain how unconstrained the problems are, which will send you down 3 hour long rabbit holes. Because you don't know if maybe you are just not counting the buttons on the shirt right, or rotating the result right, or whatever.

Maybe that’s true. However, be aware that: 1) they were focused for many hours in those problems. 2) they had experienced solving similar challenges (Prime has explained the importance of Leet code, and Thor has mentioned similar challenges in the hacker conferences). 3) Prime was a Sr. Eng in Netflix, certainly he has a lot of experience and has grown solving skills during years. Yes, they are smart. But that doesn’t mean you’ll never be able to do something similar.

How can Prime not consider himself a genius after coding quickly the paper folding puzzle? That is simply insane. Even Theo in his Defcon video was impressed by Prime code.
@TheSantifive2 ай бұрын
Gotta love the magic of the internet. I, a complete brickhead with zero coding knowledge who's not even from the US, have just learned about a hacking convention that sounds like a lot of fun. Also I've enjoyed -both entertainment and learning wise- a lot of these and Thor's videos, with truly no knowledge about coding whatsoever. Goes to show you can really get something out of anything.
@Rio-Play2 ай бұрын
Aye! Would you look at that - it looks like I made it to the photo reel! It was awesome watching you tackle those puzzles. Your level of coding expertise and problem-solving skills are truly impressive. I particularly enjoyed watching you solve the visual puzzle for the book folds - it blew my mind! Initially, I thought a more physical approach would be taken, such as trying to replicate the folds with a real book or using a PDF/images and overlapping the document's corners. However, your creative use of coding knowledge to piece things together was incredible. Recreating the cipher or algorithm using the text-based table was also impressive to watch. With so much text on screen, it can be easy to get lost - I know I would have been lost for sure. The dancing man puzzle was a standout - I loved seeing how you connected the Roman numerals and deciphered the lettering by illustrating the dancing men in GIMP. It was wild! I can only imagine how mind-numbing it must have been to try and move the bottles around to make sense of the puzzle at that hour. Your commitment to getting the crash and compile to work with no internet, relying on your phone's hotspot or tethering, is truly impressive. The dedication you showed in overcoming those obstacles is inspiring. And congratulations are in order - winning first place in the Gold Bug Challenge for your first Defcon ever! That's an incredible achievement! Many kudos to you! 🥇🪲🏆 🤜🤛 🥂 I hope to run into you in the comments/chat of future videos/streams and maybe even at the next Defcon! Have a good one, ThePrimeagen! P.S. I hope that latte got you through the ceremonies! ☕
