How South Kashmir's young women are defying conservatism to chase their sporting dreams

Across sports, women from southern Kashmir are earning a national reputation. Even though southern Kashmir has long been considered especially conservative, women have not been absent from the public space. And now, young women in South Kashmir are chasing their sporting goals, defying conservatism & overcoming multiple challenges. There is little support from the govt as well, according to them. Praveen Swami reports from Shopian.

I was posted in Kashmir. The Kashmiris are surely pure Central Asian Aryans thus also have great physical talent for strength sports. No better example than Gama Butt (Bhat). Even the Commonwealth Weightlifting super-heavy weight record is held by Kashmiri. He achieved this with technically no facilities. Thus Govt. of India must push sports in Kashmir now that peace has returned. The results will shock all.

Govt gives money after you have achieved something on your own and now you have something to stand on your own....not when you need it the most at initial stage.... I who are these idiot policy makers... Don't they have common sense?? Invest at Grass root level, build facilities in villages and small towns...then only you will have more Olympic medals.... Don't govt feel embarrassed seeing the tally in Olympic.... 1.4 billion and 6 medals. 😂😅😆
