an expert from my Pol Sci notes - topic : Federalism in India "A/t Prof MP Singh, there is no center-state dispute in India. It is party to party dispute. Dispute does not arise when same party is in power at union and state" So true...
4 жыл бұрын
I fully agree with what you have said. Opposition to interstate development projects is simply a ploy by frustrated political parties. People will see through their sinister games & they will be defeated again as in Karnataka. Erstwhile Congress Govts of MP & Maharashtra had opposed Narmada dam & had even approached Supreme Court with partial success but the Congress lost power in the two states and Sardar Sarovar Project was successfully completed. Because of access to Internet (India has the largest Internet Savvy population in the world with unrestricted Internet access), the monopoly of the perverted, planted or politically-motivated media persons has ended and people eventually come to know what is the truth, what is good for the country & why it is not happening.

[1] Indian Politics has a history of undoing what previous govt's did... first. Second, as of now, the only goal of the opposition is to Undo Modi and all his doings. The opposition does not want to compete by over-doing Modi, which would be true competitive ideal. If Modi (or in his term) a railway line is laid, the opposition wants to melt and use the iron... Most often your program fails to highlight these issues. The central government can bring investment, but its the state which has to absorb that. [2] In earlier times, funds to states depended on the centre-state relation, today its more transparent and merit based. So, its much easier for states to compete on development, while centre concentrates on Foreign Issues etc. but most states are constant attention mongers with bickering ideas of low level politics. [3] Regional parties, have no vision as it seems. They still see vote back with handouts, caste etc. What are states doing for job creation ? Closing down Foxconn ?

None of the political parties want India developed but only their fiefdom. The trouble of CAA began with the left and the Congress instigating the student's to protest and once things went out of control slowly edged out and put it on the police for violence eruption. Now every state becomes anti centre and oppose whatever the govt wants to do. Shear conveniently avoids this mention but puts the onus on Modi Shah. The entire premise that everybody agreeing with each other and the state and the centre being on the same page is higher on the hierarchy of the virtuous cycle is ridiculous. When the state and the centre agree on everything as has been the case with years of Congress rule, the only loser is the common man. I am really thrilled that there is friction between the state and the centre. This is what true federalism is and not the other crap that Shekhar spoke about. All promises have become "Jumlas", no elaboration needed. In the context of Centre-State relationships, it is all right to say "co-operative federalism", and do the opposite. Co-operation, ipso facto, denotes a 2-way street, but this Govt believes it is either "my way" added with "or else". There is no dialog with the opposition, no all party meetings, nothing to to promote healthy parliamentary or democratic traditions. People like Piloo Modi, JP, etal, opposed the Govt of their days, but never denigrated any one personally. The present BJP (totally unlike ABV's BJP), believes more in trolling, calling people derogatory names (Pappu), labeling genuine protestors as "gangs", sends police to beat students in libraries, stops the same police from stopping goons on rampage, etc, etc. Most opinion makers and the common people think that independence of institutions are in shambles. It is the center which is always in a combative mode; they forget either that they are not in Opposition, or that India is or can ever be the Fourth Reich of Aryan/Hindutva supremacy

@Uzochi Okeke I'm not against river link, I think its a great idea but needs to be done modestly. If you research it, firstly every man-made change of geography will have certain repercussions. We have to way in wether the pros out way the cons. As an opposing argument, if we link rivers that are further away, you can reduce the force of the river. This in turn reduces the width of the rivers and at some point, it will just be too thin. Also reducing the width of the river also means they are more susceptible to drought and also reduce the area on either side of the river which are arable land. Dams are controllable, you can completely open the dams flow, if they’re willing to invest far more into able to controlling the river-link would be much preferable.

Please do not distort the constitutional construct - India is NOT a federation of states [ like the USA ] India is a Union of states. Clearly evident in art.356 where the central executive can dismiss the elected state government or change the borders of a state.. [ unlike the USA] Having fully lost power in the parliament the Congress and the left parties have now taken the battle to the states defying the center on laws passed by the parliament. This is a very dangerous route as this can/ will become a precedent for political opposition in the future where the constitutional framework on center state relations will be made redundant... Ther fertility rates r way about he nation avg or replacement levels and in any case higher than the east / NE and south states. They will keeps adding mps year after year n sucking up resources at the cost of others and at the same time political power will lie with them as number of representatives from rest of India stal or decrease while their population n mp both keep increasing manifold.

CMs reach out to modi govt only when they want extra funds for their populist schemes...
@azzam6874 жыл бұрын
Assholes what do you mean extra fund does its their own income which central shows its power and prefer to give huge share where they have their own govern..... As if cenre earns for whole India...... In new gst they take the whole amount and distribute it..... Pade likhne ganwar wali baate mat kiya karo..... Agar share wise dekhoge to north States ko bilkul v nai milna chaiye southern States give 57% income to centre through taxes
@azzam6874 жыл бұрын
And up who earns minimum and gets max share... Will you like when you work more and get paid less but as a federal demo tarif country we tend to distribute our resources but dnt ever think that central is doing some kind of favour to some one...

I think your analysis is flawed and favours fragmented opposition. You are emphasizing Maharashtra as a defeat of BJP which is not really. Secondly MP and Rajsthan are more of anti incumbency. Chattisgarh yes was a real defeat.

Sir the way i see it after watching this CTC.. state govts. just look like obstructing all the development work done by Union govt. whereas no state govt is even concerned about infrastructure and is only concerned with political mileage they get from CAA and NRC.. now days no govt. talk about the infrastructure only about social issues.. i dont agree with BJP in many things but at least they worked on infrastructure as you yourself had said in an earlier CTC.. p.s. please make a CTC on Russian constitutional amendment.

The logic of this episode is false at its basic level. Its just politics. The CAA does not violate article 14 in any way. Firstly, right to equality before law applies to citizens only. Also, there is a reasonable restrictions clause. If it had not been so, I'll go and file a case against all forms of reservation as it violates my fundamental right to be treated equal before all law. But the SC has interpreted it many times as equality of equals. Therefore, there is a positive discrimination for the long oppressed sections of our society in form of reservations which does not violate article 14.

Very incomplete analysis and assessment. Donot blame the centre for passing CAA, CAA is not discriminatory to any Indian citizen. blame the state governments for trying to stall National projects like linking of rivers and bullet train project.

In fact by accusing Modi a dictator opposition tamed him not to act firmly during CAA agitation, Farm laws agitation, MVA govt during Arab's arrest, on WB despite so much violence, Kerala despite so much gold smuggling, corruption in which CM's name cropped up. If he acted decisively not awaiting supreme court approval and imposed 144 section and made a few strategic arrests CAA riots could have been avoided. It's the same with farm laws arrests. It's true with PFI. The riots happened in the name of blasphemy avoided. In the name of federal rights every state doing what ever it wants as centre is helpless to interfere. If HC of that states favour or ignore as it can't enforce any thing,it's a country in itself, sir. It's true of WB , Kerala and even AP also where who ever questions it arrested, harassed and a few died during covid. MVA was any way was different where it arrested Republic staff on no case. All the states are bankrupted as centre is helpless. Due to this they are not able repair roads let alone invest in development. It's regional parties under Mamta, Stalin, KCR and Jagan etc are dictators not Modi.
