"If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a village to abuse one" - Spotling (movie about catholic priests abusing catholic children) Whatever the people might say now to save faces, these things don't happen in a vacuum, people always know. It's not just about any specific community or religion. You cannot have gangs in a community without the people of the community fully knowing about and it turning a blind eye, be it these grooming gangs in ajmer (or similar ones in UK that made the "grooming gang" term famous), or the mumbai extortion gangs that formed in former mill worker chawls, or even the young men who go on to become terrorist, etc. in all cases the community always knows these things are happening under the surface and choose to ignore it. On a second note, if it took 32 years, then we can safely say that our justice system was not one of the heroes in this story. With so many cases where criminals go free simply because victims are scared to testify, it India should have developed a robust witness protection program long time back. At least now such things should not be problem as such cases it should not be difficult to create a system where a separate booth can be created from where the victim may be able to testify to the court via a camera with their face blurred and their name undisclosed/redacted. Journalists have been doing this for years now, so why can't the court?

The men who were released by Hon.SC may have been well settled in their lives, will have family kids etc. With minimal shame. Imagine the distrust these ladies showed on the System, when they did not even turn up to claim compensation. The Powers in courts must know the people who suffer the most are Middle class as the only thing they have is Honour (ijjat). Invariably the process of claiming back the Honour is so horrible that the middle class says to hell with it. This is being heaped on the Middle classes as the middle class has no class.
