In the last thirty years Canada has started issuing Agriculture visas are issued to those who buy canidian farm lands, are qualified in doing farming and clear an English test. This issue was introduced as most farms are over 1000 acres and the again farmers children are not interested in doing farming and e does not find buyers for his land. The Punjabis taking advantage of this visa sold their small land holding in Punjab to buy a much larger farm in Canada. They got a certification from ludhiana agricultural univisty by attending a 6 month course. They cleared the language test. and legally imegrated to Canada. In about a decade this permanent resident visa gets converted to Canidian passport. The farm size grows to over 100 acres growing Maijuvana which is legal and sold to pharmitical companies. They sponsored their families who often started a trucking business. or building wood houses.

Why would anyone in India want to spend $80 or 90 k to study overseas to simply get a basic undergraduate degree when they can do it locally at one tenth of the cost ? The reason is that the majority of the students going to Canada, Australia etc are NOT academically inclined...they are simply buying a student visa so they can do some casual low paid job to try and remain in the country until they get a permanant visa FULL STOP. Such people won't get my sympathies if these countries reduce student migration levels !! The developed countries will need nurses and carers ...so those who are interested and committed to serve old people and patients in general should do a nursing degree in India and they will be guaranteed a job for life as the good ones will never run out of well paid work.

In last 10 years, the numbers have risen to Canada is because it is impossible to get green card in US if you are born in India due to their country of birth quota on green cards. Even for top researchers, with exceptional PhD, multiple well renowned publications and research, it takes 4 to 5 years to get green card, and for rest at least 20 to 50 years. So many smart Indians come to Canada, get Canadian citizenship and then move to the US on TN visa which is for Canadian citizens. Canada as a coutry is better than Australia and Europe, but no western country in the world, in general can compete with the US. Source: Studied and worked in US for 10 years, then worked in India for 3 years, now in Canada working on relevant job.

Large scale migration from India to Canada over the years has caused a big flight of money and educated youth out of India. Now this is coming to end and some of these youth are going to have to comeback empty handed or worse in huge dept. 2. It may also affect our banks if these students are unable to repay their student loans. 3. Imagine the kind of financial and emotional toll it’s going to take on the dreams of these kids and families.
