I read these stories to my son when he was a kid. There are many, all based on Norwegian folk tales, but 3 about Askeladden are known to basically all Norwegians: 1. Prinsessen som ingen kunne målbinde - The Princess who always had to have the last word 2. Askeladden som kappåt med trollet - The boy who had an eating match with a troll/Ash lad, who competed with the troll 3. Askeladden og de gode hjelperne - Boots and his crew/The ash lad and the good helpers There's also other stories that basically all Norwegians know written by Asbjørnsen and Moe: 1. De tre bukkene Bruse - Three billy goats gruff 2. Kjerringa mot strømmen - Goody Gainst-the-stream/The old woman against the stream (this one is a common saying) 3. Pannekaken - The pancake 4. Den syvende far i huset - The father of the family 5. "God dag, mann! - "Økseskaft" - Goodman Axehaft/Good day, fellow - Axe handle Fairy tales, folklore and legends have a strong tradition in Norway, and we have a lot of local tales as well. I know at 3 from my local area, Finnskogen (literally means the forest of the Finns because of immigration of Finnish people in the 17th century): 1. Spøkelset fra Välgunaho - The ghost from Välgunaho (I've been there, since it's only a short walk from our cabin) 2. Niitaho Jussi - He was a living legend of Finnish heritage that claimed to have met Huldra, a seductive forest creature found in Scandinavian folklore 3. Haltegutten og Porkkalafela - It's a story about a limp boy that sold his soul to the devil to play the fiddle

Askeladden is a clever fellow, and it was a lot of fun hearing his stories as a child. Such a classic. I hope to read my own children Askeladden stories

I think they did a decent enough job with the vocals for what it's worth. And yes it's early puppet stop motion so of course it's a bit cursed.

@ Nono. It really resembles. But for me as a Norwegian. I feel it’s a betrayal to our culture and language in sorts

@taraldomland8657 Det er vel å ta litt hardt i. We could have been an Olsenbanden or Julekalender poorer if their Danish creators hadn't been in a sharing mood. As for language and culture, neither are set in stone.

It was. The dubbing was a bit of a turn-off, but it's hard to compete with the original. The Norwegian voice-over in all Ivo Caprino's movies is amazing. The voice work of Harald Heide-Steen (and Junior), Henki Kolstad, Toralv Maurstad, Leif Juster, Frank Robert, Kari Simonsen, Turid Haaland, Kari Diesen and others is so underrated, and bring a lot of charm to the characters. These guys are most famous for their acting, but not well known for their voice acting work.
