The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, is THE standard for that kind of shows. It is mainly commonwealth military represented, with some outside guests. HMKG is one of the few outsiders that are invited regularily. It may be a combination of good performance and history from WWII and before or other ties to the city. Like Trafalgar square, Edinburgh is gifted a christmas tree every year from Norway as thanks for support in WWII. Also, the HMKG mascot, is Major General Sir Nils Olav (III), Baron of Bouvetøya, a penguin in Edinburgh zoo. So, in short, the reason that they go to Edinburgh so often, is that it is an honor to get invited and to visit their mascot. It is also the Tattoo that it is most likely to be reported from, so there's some selection bias.
