I was a student there back in 1951 to 1962! I remember when the cross shape chapel was built in the early fifties!

@@noeldillard 11 years, it was alright but I still miss my parents but it was for my own good, Had whooping cough that my older brother came home from school and I was only six weeks old when I caught it. Nearly caused my life, It did brain damage to my speech and have to learn how to speak normal.

This kind of place really helps you appreciate just how quickly a structure can decay after only a few years of being neglected. Sometimes you'll see documentaries and such on post-apocalyptic scenarios that will say things "you wouldn't even know humans were ever here after a few hundred years" and I've always thought those sounded a bit exaggerated, but then you look at places like this that have only been left alone for 10 years or less and have already fallen into such a state and it really makes you think, not only about our future, but also about all the things we've lost to history already.

My guess is that places like this stop proper maintenance long before they are fully closed and abandoned, although I will admit the speed of decay in some of these places is quite impressive.

@JosieSchul: yah! And they didn't even look like edible mushrooms! I know mushrooms are fungus, but those looked more like fungus growing on trees, real fungi, or in crypts. Yuck! Whenever I see mushrooms growing outside. Like in shade of tree or something, I have a compulsion to kick them all over, just destroy them. I can't pass them by. I don't know why. I eat mushrooms in salads and cooked dishes, but I can't bear to see them growing. If I had been there I could not have left them alone. I would have found a piece of wood or a broom or something to have knocked them down or scraped them off. OK, I'm crazy OCD about uncontrolled mushrooms. We all have our quirks.

That room at 18:34 was originally a pool that has since been filled in. It was used for hydrotherapy back in the day. Incredible to see that the power still works here. The decayed building with the hallway that had power was the hotel for the families of those who lived at the facility. Great content as usual, well documented

I agree, except that they can get a bit careless when exploring with other people. The others will goof off and the PP will participate in disrupting the remains of the building. On their own, though, they're respectful and considerate. One of the many reasons I follow the channel -- they're low-key and calm and not shouting about how "CRAZY" it is that power's still on or something.

At 3:50 mark, the organ may be the same one I play in a musical show there in that day, except that organ was at the bottom of the stage on the right. I took organ lessons in the music class as a student! At 13:39 mark is St. Joseph Dinning room and this was the original Chapel before the new Cross shape Chapel was built! At 16:15 The Gym under the church was not in the original floor plan, When they start breaking ground for the new chapel they were forced to dig deeper to get a firm foundation and the gym was added in the plan at the last minute! At 18:29 mark This room with the tile wall was the girl's indoor pool and later a dinning room! At 19:53 mark you will see the Nun's Chapel, which at that time was use only my the nuns and perhaps way back before I came may have been the first chapel at that time!

And she wasn't actually disabled from the beginning, Joseph Kennedy got her lobotomised. She had just been shy and a little slow as a child although she had grown into a happy and lively teenager. But when she grow older she became "difficult" because she realized that her older siblings were succesful and she wasn't. The super catholic parents feared that she might become pregnant and ruin the family name. The lobotomy then ruined her and instead of "getting better" she got worse, couldn't talk anymore and needed a wheelchair. Horrible fate!

I didn't know that either, so just read the shocking story of Rosemary's lobotomy at age 23 done by Dr. James W. Watts and Dr. Walter Freeman by secret request from Rosemary's father, Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr. in November 1941. I am extremely surprised by this.

@@nayeonsbff I've gone recently as well as a few times before them. The tunnel that was flooded is no longer flooded. There is a busted pipe but somebody cleared the drain. The thing they pointed it out was actually the raft people would use to get across, as the pool was at the other end of the tunnel. Pool building is sick. The auditoriums lights still worked when I went the first time. The place is really decayed now. There's a few pipes that are busted just destroying huge parts of the building. The music room is much more decayed now as well, and there's a burst pipe in that room leaking into the chapel. The super decayed building is nearly inaccesible now. It's also super dangerous with the power still being on. Currently it's being worked on. The tunnels are well and truly dangerous, and there's a lot more styrofoam and security. The chapel is also in much worse condition. The wall with the leak is pretty much falling apart.

@@robertschnobert9090 Yeah, I know that it's still used in certain products today. My grandfather worked for Raybestos/Grey Rock, lol. If it's mixed into something that safely contains the fibers, the risk is extremely low. But in old, abandoned buildings that were built with it for fireproofing decades ago, where the asbestos is literally falling apart, & the fibers are flying around in the air....that's NOT safe. You may want to research "asbestosis" or "mesothelioma" for your reference. Back then the dangers were ignored/not completely known, so the asbestos was not contained & made safer. I remember my Dad having to put his clothes in bags when he got home in the 1980's. There's a class action suit for a reason.

Wow, this is amazing! Absolutely love your videos! I work in special education, and have come across those curtains before. Those purple curtains are light blocking for children with autism and sensory disorders. It's supposed to block the light so it's not so harsh for those children.

This is so beautiful. I was born 94. Wiring houses since 2013. These are the schools/churches I got to see growing up. This video captures the final years of a place we could have been. 1960's buildings updated for the fourth time until 2003 or so. These newer drop ceilings grow alge so well. You can't recreate anything like this. Getting to see this is once in a lifetime/the planets aligning kind of shit. I could ramble on for a couple hours why I like exactly this.

You guys have explored so many fantastic places since I have been following you but I have to say this place was the most interesting to me because I have a daughter that I raised on my own that is learning disabled. I attended college and got my degree in Special Education not to teach but to know how to help my daughter succeed in school and she graduated with honors. I know you don't tell the locations that you explore and thats commendable. I have never known of any state or church that would build such a beautiful facility that catered to the disabled and special needs children and/or adults. Its really a shame to see the decay of such a facility.

I researched this place and the institution itself still exists and is helping hundreds of disabled kids to this day. They moved out of this old campus and relocated and they have day programs and residential living houses for the people. They seem to do really good work and help many clients.

Yes. I wonder what brand fire panel that is. I've never seen one exactly like that but it looks pretty old. I've seen a few Simplex panels in their videos before, their most recent one has a few nice shots of a 4005. I always pay attention to the fire alarm system/electrical equipment in these buildings and I wish they were shown more.

Where do you find such awesome music? I'm about halfway through, and I already got chills. I love old buildings like this, even more when they still have power. I's sad to see a building like this in such poor condition, but i am glad that it still stands for you to explore it. Making the building immortal on the internet. Even if the physical building is demolished, we still have this and probably other videos documenting this building.

I would love to know when you went through here. The last month or 2 they have had construction crews working on the chapel and some of the other buildings. Not sure if someone finally rented/ bought the complex but it’s nice to see it being fixed up. It’s been neglected for far too long.

ayyy you were in my birth state(s) of Wisconsin/Illinois! (i live in Florida now) for privacy reasons, i won’t disclose the location of this facility, but awesome explore. WI has tons of abandoned places and honestly the Midwest is a treasure trove of great Urbex, especially in the Minneapolis - Milwaukee - Chicago - Detroit corridor. you guys are A1 in terms of Urbex and my favorite KZbin channel. cheers.
