I always thought they were friends, if albeit they often clashed because of LaCienaga's often petty nature and wanting to one-up Penny. They had genuine moments where they got along and Penny and her often were there for each other. LaCienaga's snap backs while often a huge point of contention in their frenemy relationship seemed to just be ignored for the most part. But this is a genuine dick move on LaCienaga's part making it seems like she reverted back to her old ways.

If pennys friends improve, that will be great but honestly, I wouldn’t care if she got better friends and we didn’t see the other 3 anymore. Michael can stay though because they’re cool. But it was annoying when in the original series penny got famous and then her friends got angry at her for treating them they way they’ve always treated her, especially considering how in this series, they kick her out of the singing group when her voice changes. And none of them had the spines to do it. And Maya sucks too. Like she seems nice in her head but she’s like people who hate all zoos even though the ones that are good are beneficial to the animals. Also for someone who tires everything she can to go against the grain, she sure was quick to join a musical group that sings pop. Her and Lacianaga are the different sides of the same coin.
