And the scene of the church massacre. It's all politics. They do something, then use media to lie and create a narrative to hide their hand.

The other Purge movies are way more intelligent to have the society criticism and the idea of such a social experiment well woven into the movie without being to blunt. The two seasons of the unfortunately discontinued amazon show especially good with that.
