I really admire how you handle critique and how you are able to defend your work. I went to art school for a while but I thought it was too hard to deal with it all, not criticism per se but the constant judgement on such personal matters. You have to be a very strong individual to be able to take things like that and not take them too personal. I think to be able to defend your work and stand behind it, is the biggest difficulty of it all. You seem like such a strong and passionate person, that is really what you need in life, I think it will take you very far! Like you said, not everyone will like your work, but what matters is that YOU love it and keep working, that you believe in your work and in yourself, but is hard sometimes not so let it get to you. It is really quite a rare characteristic to be so strong like you seem to be. Bravery is such an important aspect of life. Your videos are an inspiration! They help me not to be so scared all the time. Keep doing what you're doing :) :)

I loved seeing you defend/explain your work during your critique, because that's something I don't think I'm very good at. I think it's so important to remember that when it comes down to people liking or disliking what you do, it's really out of your control - and it goes both ways, with negative AND positive feedback. I've had to remind myself of this lately with my own work, whenever the feedback is positive and my self-doubt is quick to attack by saying "oh no but I did this wrong, and this wrong too so why would you like it" I have to remind myself that it's not up to me to decide if someone enjoys the work that I create, and they're not "just saying they like it to be nice" like I find myself thinking a lot of the time haha

your work, these luscious yet shoddy forms and environments, i think brilliantly juxtapose the heavier themes conveyed. to brush off what you do as “being for children” is to completely miss the point which is to foster a safe space where one is invited to confront a reality even more abstract than the one being presented. and to do so through a suggested innocence and joy and imagination! your work because of its “childishness” only serves, furthermore, to expose our world, so fabricated and unauthentic. which space is more real? truer? these are the questions that arise for me. at the end of the day your work is for you and that’s all that matters, but also i’m so in awe that people wouldn’t see just how great it is. rooting for you!!!!

Is that painting I the back left above you at the end the witch in Hanzel and Gretel? The witch whose house those bratty kids ate? If success in Art is changing someone's experience, brain, way of thinking … then you have done that with the videos alone. They are brilliant. I often think of the video where all of you were in the ruffled huge Salsa dresses, laying down motionless. Thank you for this video! I'm struggling quite a lot right now with my art course entry exams and your words gave me hope again. Also how you dealt with criticism was a real eye-opener for me (silly I know) but it was good to see how even art that I like from other people can get judged and it's okay to move on and proceed to express yourself and do your art how you like it anyway. Forget your professors, art is about creating a unique vision by you the artist and for anyone else who chooses to explore it with you. Some people are just not ready to step back and question their own reality. As another artist, my best advice is to stay true to yourself and don’t waste time trying to fit into another person’s box. This is the same repetitive story of artists through out the centuries. Make yourself happy first! ❤️✊

I think you handled the critiques very eloquently and confidently. Work where you devise or create everything can be so personal. I really like your videos and sculptures. Lots of the colors and textures and and objects you include are things that remind me of my bedroom and parts of my wardrobe. It is playful in aspects but I don't think that makes it for children. You go, girl! Profs can be real stick in thr muds -- one of my biggests beefs with academia is their pedantic, dryness and inflexibility. I appreciate your starting audio since a lot of my life has been out of spite in what my family and others assume I should do! Your prof also seems be someone who'd dismiss Frida Kahlo who was very bright with her colours and images but also was able to convey a more dark energy.
