Fun fact: after watching the edit myself, I realized that I accidentally did something really cool. After Mace tells Anakin to wait in the Council chambers, Maul is locked in a holding cell, then it cuts back to Anakin in the chambers. This makes it feel symbolic of Anakin feeling as though he is being put in a cell. I would love to take credit for that, but it was an accident.

Imagine spending days maybe even weeks working on the perfect painting, now this is Da Vinci level art you're making here, you finally finish all your hard work after hours, now you decide you'll sell it because it's so good you'll make a bunch of money. But then some jackass walks in takes your painting and says "sorry I wanted this but don't have money" that's exactly what Piracy is. These people spend a year maybe more making movies, or music or books, or whatever else it's their job, it's how they pay for everything they need same way your job pays for your needs. But you're saying that just because you don't want to find a better job, or can't budget your finances properly that it's somehow okay to steal from these people? If you want free stuff move to Russia or another Communist country, but in most places if you want something you trade for it, in this case little pieces of paper with numbers on it, coins, or with a handy card. Sure some Actors, directors, executive producers, etc. Get paid so much someone stealing $5-$20 probably doesn't affect them, but what about the little guys? The caterer, the P.As, the sound guys, the effects/makeup lady, the prop and set designers? Etc. A whole bunch of people put in a lot of work creating these movies just for people to steal from them. Don't mean to rant so long, but Piracy is one of the few things that legitimately pisses me off, especially when people gloat about it or laugh it away like "lol I don't have money so I'm just going to steal this". I really question some peoples morals.

werewolf914 the little guys, caterer/sound guy/effects ect, are paid before the film even releases. Looks great. Thanks for putting in the work to edit this together. I would make a couple criticisms though. 1. I feel like the Battle of Coruscant should be happening more simultaneously along with the Siege on Mandalore. Like for example, after Anakin/Obi-Wan give R2 the comlink, that would've been a good time to cut to the Siege on Mandalore, and once Ahsoka/Rex run inside the city with their troops, cut to General Grievous entering the bridge in ROTS. 2. I think the scene of Obi-Wan on Utapau should have played continuously until Obi-Wan begins to chase Grievous and drops his lightsaber, then have it cut to the aftermath on Mandalore, followed by the meeting between the Jedi council members transitioning back and forth between ROTS and TCW. Rex says that Anakin is at the meeting room during the first scene of the episode Shattered, so by having that scene precede everything with Obi-Wan engaging Grievous, it makes it seem like it took Ahsoka/Rex a really long time to simply walk to the holo-transmission bunker. Plus it makes it seem like the meeting was going on a long time, and that Anakin was there far longer than likely.
@MadmansKnowledge4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Those are some really good points. I'll explain my scene placement choices. 1. That is exactly how I originally cut the Battle over Coruscant and Siege of Mandalore, but it felt awkward that after the "happy landing", there's just 30-40 minutes of RotS with no TCW scenes, when before they cut back-and-forth constantly. By moving all of those TCW scenes to after the Battle of Coruscant, it creates larger chunks of both that are more evenly spaced out. I think exciting back-and-forth cutting is cool but it didn't end up working there when the scale of the entire movie is considered, but it did work during Order 66 and the aftermath. I think it's best that the pacing starts out slower and builds up in intensity throughout the nearly 4 hour runtime. Think of how movies like The Lord of the Rings Extended Editions are paced (less inter-cutting at the start, more towards the end). 2. You might be right about that, but I'll explain why I did it. I was trying to imply that Ahsoka leaving for the meeting took place simultaneously to Obi-Wan engaging Grievous. That Obi-Wan scene is 5 minutes of real time, without any time jumps. I think it's believable that a battle meeting would last 5 minutes + before when Rex talked to Anakin + after when the Council talks to Ahsoka. I also like cutting from Cody finding Obi-Wan's lightsaber, to him informing the Council that they've engaged Grievous. I think either cut could've worked, but those are my reasons for choosing the one I did.
@TheMemeRepository4 жыл бұрын
I've seen edits where the battles are happening simultaneously. While that is the logical choice from a continuity perspective, it does completely disrupt the pacing of both scenes, so I'd much prefer they be separated with some skewing the timelines.

One thing I’ve really noticed from the edits is just how much more ominous the show is than the film itself. I think it’s a bit of a shame you had to break up that long ominous build up from Ahsoka leaving Mandalore to the scene on the Venator’s bridge since you don’t get that full sense of unease, but I understand that there isn’t really any way to do that since you need the film to get to Order 66 as well. Overall it looks very well done

This makes the arc way better for me I honestly thought it was underwhelming because I wanted them to show stuff that ROTS did not like Anakin's raid on the temple and to make it feel complete without needing to watch ROTS instead of just sticking to Ahsoka's POV. The fact we knew Ahsoka and Maul would survive took away a lot of tension (unless you never watched Rebels then I suppose it would feel epic). With this edit there's more tension captured because of how sad it is

Fantastic job, this is probably the best attempt I've seen at combining the two. I'm glad you thought about the pacing of ROTS rather than just trying to smoosh the two together. My constructive criticisms are pretty minor, but I think they're worth mentioning. 1) While I do appreciate trying to use everything from the Siege of Mandalore, I think using the footage from opening narration during the opening crawl and having the individual titles sprinkled throughout the edit was a bit much. Lucas' style for the original six films is very specific, almost documentary-like in its presentation. He'd try to ground the films within a solid sense of reality, meaning he'd avoid flashbacks, text overlays (outside of the crawl), and anything that would clash with selling the reality of the world, or otherwise clashing with the style he'd previously established. I think the closest we got to breaking this was Anakin's visions, but even then, they weren't flashbacks in the traditional sense, but instead, visions that the character was physically seeing. My diatribe about Lucas' Star Wars filmmaking-style aside, even when the titles were in the episodes, they always felt really cheap and out of place. Almost like they'd forgotten to change the font from an earlier draft, so seeing them overlayed in the actual episode only further emphasized that, as the text isn't even aligned to fit within the space of the shots they are presented, but instead, awkwardly overlayed dead center with no modification. It looks less like a proper caption and more like a quick-fix done in Windows Movie Maker. In the grand scheme of things, this is incredibly minor as far as complaints go, but I thought it was worth mentioning. If I were to apply my own fix to this, I'd drop the footage from the opening crawl and try to maybe set up a montage after the crawl that shows the length and breadth of the war without narration. I'd also either drop the episode title overlays entirely or otherwise re-do them in a way that makes them fit better within the shots they are presented in. 2) My second and final critique is the placement of Ahsoka's final scene. I feel like that needs to be moved later in the edit, as I feel like capping off her story as early as it currently is doesn't really fit with the pacing of ROTS. With where it presently ends, we're in the final stretch before the end with Obi-Wan about to confront Anakin and Yoda about to fight Sidious. With Ahsoka's story already being wrapped by that point, she feels like a bit of an afterthought, rather than being one of the main players. Indeed, the final scene with Vader might lose some of its impact if Ahsoka drops out of the story before the climax, as with everything happens in final act of the film, it would be very easy for Ahsoka to be forgotten by the audience if she doesn't remain as constant a presence as Obi-Wan, Yoda, Anakin and Sidious. There are a few solutions to this. You can simply move Ahsoka's final scene (the aftermath of the crash) to the final goodbyes at the end, perhaps cutting it up and spreading it throughout the final montage of the Skywalker children and Vader settling into their homes for the next twenty years, with Ahsoka dropping her saber being the scene directly after Luke is dropped at the Lars. While that solution would be fantastic on its own, if you wanted to take it a step further, you could also move the final conflict of Victory and Death later into the movie as well, intercutting it with the existing Vader versus Obi-Wan\Yoda versus Sidious fight. Again, having all the final battles happening at the same time, rather than having a climax before the actual climax of the movie. The way ROTS is structured relies on all the final conflicts happening at the same time, so slotting the final battle of The Clone Wars in with the final fights of the movie would be a massive improvement. Again, everything else you've done with the edit is second-to-none. I only mention these critiques because this has been my biggest niggle with other fan edits I've seen, so if I'm going to give this suggestion to anyone, it should be the person who has already 95% of the way there. Once again, absolutely amazing work with the editing choices here and I hope my suggestions have been helpful. :)

Where the parts of the clone wars happen in this cut of the movie are where they happen chronologically in the timeline, so I feel like the way he edited them into the movie fits better
@TheMemeRepository4 жыл бұрын
@@XCalibur_EX I'm not really thinking about how the literal timing of events (he already cheated with the beginning of the Siege anyway, and the film benefited for it) as much as I'm thinking about what this edit needs to fit seamlessly within the plot structure of Revenge of the Sith. It is true, the place he put some of the scenes in question line up more accurately with the show, and that should be strived for. There does come a point, however, where making it more chronologically accurate begins to compromise the quality of the viewing experience. If we remain faithful, Ahsoka basically disappears just before the climax (running the risk of the audience forgetting about her), and indeed, we have two climaxes happening one after the other, which is just clunky. If we really want Ahsoka to be a part of this story, she needs to be present from beginning to end, the same as the other protagonists. In any case, the events on the Star Destroyer are so isolated that you can easily futz the timelines without creating noticeable discrepancies. I'd love for an edit that both fits seamlessly into ROTS' structure and respects the continuity of events. If that's not possible, however, I'm always going to opt for a more watchable movie over something that is perfectly on point chronologically (especially when all direct references to the events of the movie cease after Order 66 commences anyway).
@XCalibur_EX4 жыл бұрын
@@TheMemeRepository he didn't cheat at all for the beginning of the seige, it took Anakin and Obi-Wan an hour to get to coruscant and Ahsoka around 3-5 hours to get to Mandalore, his cut is fine, the timeline is perfect and the pacing is just as good, you dont need Ahsoka there the whole time and after the end of her arc (in the movie) its kinda hard to forget that she was in the movie, having any scenes interrupting the Mustafar and Senate battles would ruin the pacing of the movie. It was also important to George to make sure people knew when certain events were happening in the movie to prevent confusion, making the end of Ahsokas story near the end of the film would make it confusing to watch when her standing in front of the graves of the clones happened just as Anakin was standing outside the facility on Mustafar crying, which is what he did, and it works perfectly
@TheMemeRepository4 жыл бұрын
@@XCalibur_EX I'm clearly getting mixed messages on the Siege of Mandalore thing, as others have told me that they're so supposed to be happening around the same time, so I won't die on that hill. What I will emphasize, though, is that the Star Destroyer sequence can easily be edited to stretch it for as long as we need it. The last touchpoint we get for Revenge of the Sith was Sidious Ordering 66 (which happened faster than the movies, so even the show was skewing the timelines for the edit) and after that, we have an incredibly isolated story of survival aboard a Star Destroyer in hyperspace. A story that you can extend as long as you need to in order to fit into the Revenge of the Sith structure. If you put the scenes earlier, you risk incurring Transformers 4 syndrome, where you have multiple third acts playing one after another and it just becomes a mess. I'm a huge continuity nerd myself, but I also have an appreciation for editing and story structure, and while I can't say for certain without watching the full edit myself, I just don't see the current placement of the final episode being the best from a structural point of view. It's also possible that I'm wrong, but simply looking at the placement of the clips right now, combined with my knowledge of both the episodes and ROTS, I just don't see how capping off Ahsoka's story that early makes sense beyond trying to remain faithful the strictest, most literal timeline of events, which is great from a continuity perspective but doesn't really recreate the most engaging viewing experience. I'll extend the olive branch here and say that I'm only advocating for this because the Star Destroyer portion of the story is a scene that can be cheated. If there was a blatant contradiction created by how this final storyline interacts with ROTS (ie direct references to events as they happen in the film), I would advocate for keeping the more clunky structure to prevent the plot from becoming nonsensical. There are limits for accomodating the viewing experiences and I'd rather a story make sense than a story being flawlessly structured. Luckily, the Star Destroyer sequence can almost be seen as Luke's training on Dagobah. We're not given any specific timelines for how long he was there, and that allows you a lot of flexibility with the edit. Even asking questions like "wouldn't they have arrived back at Coruscant?" can easily be handwaved as the clones diverting their course to ensure Ahsoka and Maul didn't escape. There are plenty of ways to get this to fit, and thus you have the freedom to put these scenes where they make sense structural within the movie. What's really important to remember is that this edit turns Ahsoka into one of the main protagonists, so she needs to slot into this story in the same way as the rest. Otherwise, The Clone Wars stops complimenting Revenge of the Sith and starts clashing with it, and while that can sometimes be necessary, there is enough wiggle room here to use the aforementioned scenes in whatever way we need them.
